Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

Hi guys - have not posted on any SF4 thread for a while, but feel inclined to post after reading this page.

I to am a pad player but appreciate that a stick is much much better. When SF4 came out I bought a MadCatz fight pad but also bought a MadCatz SE stick and modded it with Sanwa parts and an octagonal plate.

I have tried practicing on it but ultimately went back to the pads because of two reasons:

1) The whole stick unit moves around to much - I would have to physical attach it to the coffee table to stop this.
2) It is sooooo damned noisy. My game time is usually at night and it kept my wife up. Even during the day it is distracting for anyone in ear shot.

Therefore it was the pad for me and the stick is in the cupboard

Anyone else find these problems with the stick? And if so, did you try to solve them or just put up with it?

My first venture to the stick world was with a MadCatz SE, which after a day or two went back for a full refund. It was just pap. That said, I wouldn't mind trying out TE one day, as I'm sure it's a million times better. Anyway, after selling the madcatz, I went with HORI, a HRAP3 sanwa modded and a couple of fully sanwa modded FS3's.. Though the stick and buttons were great, i had the same problem as you, in that for desk use, they moved around a little too much. So what I done was weighted them down (at least the FS3's) with some things that look like little bean bags, but full of lead. They are used to hold down artwork, after it's been rolled up. Being that the bags are soft, you can squeeze them in quite snuggly into the corners of the casing.. Now they weigh like a couple of battery backups and neither will move for love nor money.. By far the best upgrade, even taking the JLF and OBSF30s into consideration.

is anyone around (ps3) in the next few hours for some games?

I should be although I doubt I will be able to connect to you again even though it worked last time. The router settings just don't seem to be getting saved for some reason.

Right ok guys, I need a bit of help here. As some of you are aware (Artheas, Margaret, Kreeeee, ojste) I am not able to connect with you guys even though previously I had no issues at all!

This is definately something to do with the ports on my router. Margaret once told me which ports to unblock which I did and it worked, I was able to connect to him on the PC. The next day however, it was back to normal, I couldn't connect. I was trying to connect to ojste last week but couldn't (on PS3) and while he waited, I rang o2 and someone over there went into my router settings and it suddenly started working again. Again, the next day it wasn't working so for some reason the settings are not getting saved at all. I am convinced something is up with the router, as surely if you unlock certain ports it should remain saved and work the next day???

I have just rang o2 again and they have said I need to speak to the 'gaming department' who can help with this issue and they charge £15 if they resolve the issue. I know that they will resolve it for the time being but I am sure the next day it won't work again in which case I can expect a full refund and also a new router.

So, I need someone to help me test this out. If any of you guys I mentioned can get online this evening, and then again tomorrow evening and for the next few days (only has to be for afew mins) give me a shout on here please. :)

good game again today margaret, even though i finally managed to snatch a few wins (after i lost like 20) only because of bad match up like chun li against zangeif (who is probably your worst character, because it was the only match i felt i was in total control) seth's poor endurance and power, and long range tiger shot spam and s.hk spam against balrog (which is the only way i know to fight him...). the funny thing is i actually thought i played better the other day despite my 80odd games losing steak. i think i need to work on my close range mix-up big time, because i cant seem to do anything but run away or take massive damage every time you got close, and my attacks are too predictable at well.

I can't play Zangief at all! I never seem to be able to tick throw with him like I can with Seth's grab. :o Can't really get into him he just bores me as a character, gonna be giving T.Hawk a go though. :)

Just decided to reinstall SF4 after having formatted last week. Was looking forward to playing a few games again, but then i get a reminder of how crap the matchmaking system is :@
Filter by language is ****ing useless.. i'm not on SF4 to chat to randoms. It has absolutely no bearing on player location, which should be one of the filters.
I need to hit Y to check the players location, which taks a few seconds to open and then close. By which time the room will be full when i try to join.
etc etc

Btw anyone here play SF3 or SSF2T? I'm new to both, and wouldn't mind someone to learn/practice/spar with.

Er.. is there a way to play these online? Or are you refering to playing at the local arcades :D ?

madness - Thanks bud. Left you feedback as well.

I am back on this now hopefully every day or 2 for half an hr or so. Just taken an 8-2 whooping by Margarets Sagat. Kept telling myself don't jump in and kept jumping in, his zoning has improved a lot, I find it difficult to sit there trying to keep up with Sagats fireballs so jump in only to get high kicked back to the other side of the screen!:mad: :p I really need to learn to be more patient and take my time rather then go in for an attack, you are asking for trouble doing that against a decent Sagat.

I didn't touch any router settings and it connected first time which was odd, I need to try it out with you other guys aswel so shout me if you catch me online! :)

I did find it funny when I caught you with his forward+roundhouse twice in a row (double hits both times too) :D

Sagat zoning is awesome! He's so badass if the other person stops fireballing I just sit there like 'sup?' and wait for the jump in. His fireballs are so good that I can pretty much throw one straight back if they resume the fireball war. B)

That standing light kick nerf really puts me off playing him though, I love that move so much. Still I doubt I will totally go off him in Super but got some other characters I am gonna try out first!

Edit: and if you really are gonna jump in against Sagat it's better to do an empty jump usually because if I uppercut it's a tasty trade in my favour. (f+roundhouse on it's own or ultra if I have it :D)

That said though if you jump over a fireball at close range it's of course perfectly safe to do a jump in attack
