Somebody at Microsoft appears to have flicked a switch a little early, with an advertisement appearing on the Xbox 360 dashboard tonight for Gears of War 3.

There's the trademark Gears of War logo, and a tagline that reads "The epic story concludes April 2011".

The ad appears to have jumped the proverbial gun, with the official reveal of the game not expected to have taken place until an appearance from Epic's Cliff Bleszinski on the Jimmy Fallon show on Monday night.

He of course was supposed to have been on the show, well, last night, but his appearance was pulled at the last minute. Guess somebody forgot to pass that onto the Xbox 360's ad team!

Despite the lack of an official reveal, it's already been rumoured that the third game in the Xbox 360 shooter series will feature franchise firsts like like underwater combat and mech suits.

Can't agree with all points on the GT video, for instance I REALLY hope there isn't any "stealthy" bits. I'm actually suprised it's still another year off, I would have expected it to be out this year, Q4 maybe.

I'd also hate it if it had 'open levels', part of made gears good was the pacing, opening up the levels would really make it difficult to push the players forward at a decent pace.

Perhaps they don't want it to yet again be released in synch with a COD game and then be shown up for the unplayable game it was at launch.

Yes! Yes yes yes! YES! Ahem. :D

4 player co-op would be awesome, but it's only going to work over XBL or system link with 2 screens. Going back to N64/Goldeneye sized squares to play would ruin the game experience for me.

Personally I'd like to see some variation on the horde side of things, like rather than predefined spawn points in the levels you get emergence holes randomly appearing.

Whatever happens, the XBL online side of things needs a monumental overhaul. Sitting there for 5 minutes whilst you gather a team, then some chump decides he doesn't like the map so quits out leaving you a man down. :(

I just hope they sort out the MP aspect of the game.I like gears 2 online when it ISN'T lagging.Unfortunately i'd say 4/5 games I play have terrible lag.If they sort this out i'll be very happy.

I enjoyed the co-op in what was an average game. I liked the MP in the first one and horde was quite good fun but I didn't stick with it with the lag.

Which was a shame because I'd rather have played it than COD. I just hope they have it fixed on release this time because it's excellent fun when it works. If they sort out the whole match making I'd be interested.

Yes!!! One of my most played online games. Really good when it doesn't lag, which isn't very often admittedly. Annex is a great game, kept me hooked for a lot longer than cod.

Looking forward to this!
GoW1 and 2 were the only real games on either platform which i played to the death (So only games which i really enjoyed then =p).
Cant wait.

Can't agree with this more.

Couldn't I just replay the first GoW? Or rent the second again? As far as I'm aware, the first two were the same game. Sort of like Halo.

I cant really see how you can honestly think this, considering the massive step up in scale. Although yes they are obviously going to be similar.
