Bumped into neighbour's car, scratched bumper

Oops - I couldn't quite squeeze past my neighbour's car and caught the corner of their bumper (red Skoda Fabia). There are a couple of scratches on their bumper and a bit of a gouge on mine. Being a good chap I've put a note on their windscreen with my contact details (living in the south, we don't speak to our neighbours, so I have no idea which house they live at).

I'll offer to pay for the damage, just wondering what sort of damage to my bank balance I can expect? Never met these neighbours before, hope they'll be reasonable...

As long as it's just the bumper, I'd expect to pay around about £100 up to £150 depending on where the work gets done. Red is quite a hard colour to match as it fades but a decent bodyshop should be able to get a good match. I'm sure others will recommend places :)

EDIT:// Forgot to mention that it's quite a noble act and hopefully the neighbours will be OK about the situation.

I hope he tracks you down, cuts your eyes out, then rapes the gaping wounds.

did something similar to my dads car...however I was hooning around on his electric scooter he has got whilst he has broken his leg.

Didnt bother telling him or leaving a note...

Good on ya for leaving your details, we all make mistakes.

Unfortunately stuff like this is entirely random. You might get lucky and find you hit someone who doesn't care about there car too much and would be perfectly happy pocketing £100 or so. Equally you could find somebody who'll milk to situation for as much as they can get (Get a dodgy bodyshop to make up an overpriced estimate and keep the extra for themselves) or if you're really unlucky, somebody who'll refused to deal outside of insurance.

That, unfortunately. Hope for the best. My mum literally brushed past some fellas car a few weeks ago walking to hers and her calf area probably touched his bumper. He was fine until she went to her car and he realised she was a driver then came running after her talking about insurance blah blah blah until she politely told him to f off and stop trying to scam her and there was cctv (which she could prolly access right away as she worked there :D ) to prove he was lying (said she gouged his bumper). He was driving some scratched to hell accord and the mark was obviously covered in dust still and weeks/months old.

Where abouts in West Sussex are you? I would have expected around £100 too just for a blend and spray on a bumper. Since you left your details they have no reason not to be reasonable. Some of us down here to speak to our neighbours. :D

Well done for doing the right thing, there are not many honest people out there these days.

As has been said already it depends on how fussy and/or scheming your neighbours are.

They could end up wanting the bumper replaced because of whatever is underneath that is designed to take the impact needing replacing, etc etc blah blah. New bumper could be a few hundred.

On the other hand they might just accept whatever you offer as extra money in their back pocket. Depends entirely on the owner really.

Horsham.

Just been out and spoke to my neighbour, bit of a MILF tbh - she got the note and was washing the car to see how bad the damage was. Seemed quite reasonable and appreciative that I'd owned up, so hopefully things will be ok.
