Hi guys - have not posted on any SF4 thread for a while, but feel inclined to post after reading this page.
I to am a pad player but appreciate that a stick is much much better. When SF4 came out I bought a MadCatz fight pad but also bought a MadCatz SE stick and modded it with Sanwa parts and an octagonal plate.
I have tried practicing on it but ultimately went back to the pads because of two reasons:
1) The whole stick unit moves around to much - I would have to physical attach it to the coffee table to stop this.
2) It is sooooo damned noisy. My game time is usually at night and it kept my wife up. Even during the day it is distracting for anyone in ear shot.
Therefore it was the pad for me and the stick is in the cupboard
Anyone else find these problems with the stick? And if so, did you try to solve them or just put up with it?
My first venture to the stick world was with a MadCatz SE, which after a day or two went back for a full refund. It was just pap. That said, I wouldn't mind trying out TE one day, as I'm sure it's a million times better. Anyway, after selling the madcatz, I went with HORI, a HRAP3 sanwa modded and a couple of fully sanwa modded FS3's.. Though the stick and buttons were great, i had the same problem as you, in that for desk use, they moved around a little too much. So what I done was weighted them down (at least the FS3's) with some things that look like little bean bags, but full of lead. They are used to hold down artwork, after it's been rolled up. Being that the bags are soft, you can squeeze them in quite snuggly into the corners of the casing.. Now they weigh like a couple of battery backups and neither will move for love nor money.. By far the best upgrade, even taking the JLF and OBSF30s into consideration.
