UFC 112: Invincible

I admire Anderson Silva for all his skills, but the guy is a first class *****. All that clowning, telling Maia to stand and fight, then doing nothing for two rounds. You know what, I'm no GSP fan, but I'll be praying for GSP to take him down and pound him within an inch of his life or snap one of his limbs.

All credit to Maia for hanging in there when he was clearly busted up - he made a much better show of it than Leites did and you cant blame him for the main event being such a let down.

Its such a shame Belfort got injured, I'd love to see him take Silva's head off. Not been a good couple of weeks for UFC champions - GSP bores everybody do death with a 5 round snoozer, Penn gets beat by a guy doing the human mosquito and then Anderson alienates even more of his fanbase.

Dana White is not going to be a happy man.

Anderson Silva has issues.

either that or some weird plan of doing himself no favours this fight to look better in his next.

I love Anderson Silva's showboating as long as he can back it up. Tonight he couldn't and that's where the disappointment came from.

Instead of arsing about he should have just laid into him in round 2 and ended it while he still had the energy.

Anyone that watches this fight and still likes Anderson Silva needs their head checking. Anyone the does not have respect for Maia also needs their head checking.

Anderson got annoyed that Maia wouldnt fall into the bate of strikeing. So what? Maia didnt get annoyed that Silva wouldnt go to the ground with him. Damien threw punches, went for takedowns, went for submissions.

All respect for Maia's heart and skills.
None for Anderson. Biggest joke I have ever seen.

this is what i was getting at with my prediction. 2-3 fights ago silva got dissed for time wasting, and i don't think he ever got over the criticism he got for it. i havent watched the fight yet, but i presume he won. he must know when he loses the belt his career is over.

Seriously, go on UFC.com, theres a post fight thing on there with Silva and he seems to be going on about Maia not respecting HIM?

I dont know what the hell he is on about. Hes just annoyed that Maia wouldnt trade with him like Forrest did to make him look good.

Maia didnt just lay on his back like Leites did. Maia did what he could. Anderson gestured to Maia as in "come on and strike me". Well that should mean Maia should gesture to say "come on, lay on the ground and roll with me".

I had respect for Maia before and have even more mad respect for him now. I had none for Silva and still have none. He is a joke

he thinks getting through a fight without being hurt is the best result he can get. and he's right. i really like watching him fanny around, having so much skill that you can completely dictate the fight is great. but the fans don't like it, he'll lose his job.

We need GSP to pop up with that certain phrase now..

Replace "Matt" with "Anderson"

I'm not sure about the BJ Penn vs Edgar outcome, I really think it could have gone either way. Edgar did a good job of looking busy but what did he actually do? I believe Penn landed the harder shots, but less of them. I really don't understand why Penn didn't take the fight to the mat, he would have schooled Edgar in the ground game in my opinion.

Anderson, what a complete joke! I really thought the showboating and out classing was funny for the first round but I expected him to get it over with in the second. He just deliberately was an ass and I can't wait for GSP to tool him, if Dana lets him take a superfight after that crap performance.

Poor night of fights tbh

Gracie abysmal lol at laying on floor and asking for a handup the dude was ****** but didnt want to say "I quit".

BJ Penn hmmmm what happened there he had no answer, looked slow out of sorts didnt really seem to do much damage didnt change game plan what so ever was a poor poor showing from him. On the other had Edgar fought a good fight he was active his movement was decent made it hard to land any big punches and just seemed to have so much more energy.

Cant say much more than whats been said about Silva already the first 2 rounds it was kinda funny as you were just expecting him to come out and finish it but NOOOOOO he didnt do anything what so ever. Should have been warned bit earlier and had a point deducted, didnt Dana White go over to his corner and have a word with his manager?

Not sure how he can go about fights like that without finishing them what with being so cocky he didnt back it up. Seemed scared to engage first incase he was caught and got rocked.
HUGE HUUUGE respect to Maia the guy did brilliantly in the end he even started to stand in the middle calling him to do something after the farse of Silvas antics.

50-45 was ridiculous IMO, but I said to my GF whilst watching it Edgar could be winning all these rounds just because of how busy he looks. To the untrained eye I would say Edgar won the fight, to me it looked like BJ won.

Dana's not happy!

Dana White, president of the UFC, weighed in on Anderson Silva after his bizarre antics in defending the UFC middleweight title against Demian Maia at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi, labelling it “an embarrassment”.

White even said he may even become the first UFC champion to have his fights put onto the non-televised preliminary match-ups in the future. That’s unlikely, but White showed his disgust by moving from the Octagonside to the back of the outdoor arena in Abu Dhabi at UFC 112.

“I dont know how yet, but I will make this up to the fans,” White told Yahoo.com straight after the contest. No surprise, really. Silva has done this before, at UFC 79 and UFC 97. It happens when he is clearly too good for his title challenger, and with the adrenaline flowing, seems to be unable to go for the finish. Particularly when they are grapplers.

“Believe me, I’ll answer the questions of what a disgrace the main event was,” said White. “To end it the way that we did was an embarrassment for me, the UFC, the Fertittas and the UAE.” This was the first UFC in the United Arab Emirates.

“If you’re that talented, be Mike Tyson. go in there and finish,” said White. “I’m so blown away and disgusted and saddened.”

Silva is no Tyson. Shades of Roy Jones Jnr in his pomp, yes. But he does not have the predatory instinct of ‘Iron Mike’. Nor will he ever have. Different animal. And tonight, he was on a different planet.

Im dont watch much UFC but decided to give it a go yesterday as it was on earlier enough. Was enjoying the show until the main event an the first couple of rounds were Ok & the show boating remind me of somthing like prince naseem hamed whould of done & i was waiting for the big KO only to be let down & him running around instead of fighting.

What was the warning the ref gave him in the final round? Could the ref of stepped in earlier & told him to get on an fight?

i think that's the way forward. to make a new rule saying if you're time wasting you forfeit. surprised if that doesn't already exist tbh.

then anderson fights, forfeits, and gets ejected.

Anderson Silva was a disgrace and not for the first time!!

I'm not sure where Dana goes from here, should Anderson be told to fight Brock/GSP, should he be given one more chance, should they cut him from the roster, I'm not sure, but something needs to be done as he's dragging the UFC down with a performance like that.

I think the Penn v Edgar fight could have gone either way, but Frankie did seem to do more.

Matt Hughes did a great job on Renzo, especially deciding upon the stand up route, with some superb leg kicks, most impressed.

Dos Anjos looked fantastic on the floor and did a great job on Terry Etim.

Munoz did extremely well to make it out of the first, where I thought Grove was going to stop him, but some of the best ground and pound out there finished Grove off, a good win.

Apart from Paul Kelly, a bad night for the Brits.
