First proper crysis 2 trailer

From what I can gleam, you play as Prophet, the dude who mysteriously went back to the island at the end of the first game. It's all rather intriguing...

console footage? wtf it looks far better than the original crysis on very high to me!

Then you're not looking properly. The textures are weak, the character details (especially faces) low poly and the environment linear with straight lines seeing the possible inability of the consoles to render thick jungle settings. This is most likely an graphics render based on the console versions.

Well if thats console footage then we're all in for a treat on the pc! :D

i just hope this game is more optimised so the its more available to a more larger audience. but cant wait for this game from this trailer, its got my interest anyway!

My main problem with this is that the series for me has always been about a really expansive naturalistic environment as its unique attraction.
I'm just not sure I give a **** about another rubble city game.
The emphasis on narrative also worries me, not because I don't value narrative in games (I really do) but because this has been one of their weakest points before. You want to really emphasise the area of the game that has been really substandard in the past ? hmm, not sure.
Call me cynical but I also think that this change of setting might be motivated by the fact that sheer memory & asset capability is the one area where the current gen consoles just can't touch pc's still. Breaking it down into (still large) chunks.
But I'm not one of the knee jerk 'it touched a console, it has the plague !!!' types either, I've enjoyed some incredibly innovative, ballsy console games through the years.
Colour me 'sceptical but still open minded' for now.

Here's one with it running on the ps3 in real time, click. If you skip to 3 mins in you can see it running the first level in crysis. The graphics look nice while still maintaining the open environments and decent a framerate. The only thing they've cut down on is texture res and draw distance to get it running on the consoles. They must have optimised RAM usage a lot to get it to run this well + this is old footage so it will run even better now.

Here's another write up of the demo that crytek showed to the reporters.

Part 1
Part 2

One interesting quote:

Crysis 2 on an early 360 development build months away from release is, regardless of platform, flat out the most visually stunning game in history. Period. I cannot adequately describe the richness, depth of detail, and the pure sensation that you are in a Nanosuit 2 bustling about New York City. I had a flashback to the very first time I walked out of the bunker and into the tropical paradise in the first level Far Cry. There aren’t enough superlatives to put his correctly on paper.

That's not Crysis 2, that was a tech demo running the engine. Those environments won't be in the final game. The actual announcement of Crysis 2 didn't even appear until half a year later.

It doesn't matter that it's not crysis 2. It proves that the cryengine 3 can run large open environments on the consoles contrary to the claims of many that the consoles couldn't, leading them to believe crysis 2 will be a linear console port POS.
