So my car was stolen last night.....

Hope your motor gets robbed up real soon pal.

They can have it - I couldn't care less. It's rubber and metal at the end of the day.

Being sympathetic to someone who has had all of their posessions stolen is over reacting?

An OTT Astra VXR, 40" plasma TV and a £1500 Omega watch? It's all insured anyway. How can you be so attached to such superficial junk? Societal values really have taken a turn for the worse when people place such a high value on such meaningless 'bling bling' junk.

Have you considered that the items are perhaps more than superficial junk to some people? Not only are they items that may be worth a lot of money to the people involved they are probably items that he has had to put a significant amount of time and effort in to be able to afford. Somehow I think you would be singing a very different tune if someone had entered your home without your consent and taken what are probably the 3 most expensive things you own.

I think it is you that needs to re-evaluate their values.

Although I'm a bit of a lurker on here I had been following your posts so as others have said sorry to hear it happened fella.

Shock as posters in Motors value cars as more than 'rubber and metal'.

I'd just buy another one with the insurance money. Or an Audi, or Golf or Focus. It's not as if there are a shortage of cars out there. Or a shortage of watches, or 40" plasma TVs.

18" wheels are a performance modification, most hatchbacks become quite un-drivable when you seriously augment the wheel & tyre size.

Do you have to declare the pack of Werther's Originals in the glove box? Can anyone cite a case where someone has had a claim refused due to an un-declared tracker?

Big wheels are a performance limiting modification maybe, should premiums go down? What about a big ICE install, or a bodykit, or lexus lights? Under Body Neon lights? Are they a performance modification too?

Have a claim refused or not isn't really the point. There are plenty of stories of obvious undeclared modifications slipping under the radar of claims adjusters, that make it right does it?

Thanks - I like cats. That one's a bit fat though.

LOL :D

Wow MarkDavis wow. And yes the watch was a 21st birthday present from my dad as was my gold chain which was also stolen. Even the TV has a sentimental value to me as it was my first large purchase I made after starting work full time.

Princey, don't listen to the idiots. They'll think differently when their house gets pillaged.

I assume you're claiming for the non-Astra items on your house insurance? How's that going?

My dads dealing with the home insurance but as far as I know there isn't going to be an issue and we have the receipts for all the items too.

Glad to hear everything is getting sorted Princey. Plus as a little bonus you get a decent price for the VXR :p

Joking aside, hope everything get sorted for you. Gutted about the insurance on the new motor though thats a fair whack!

Our home insurance has a special personal possessions cover which covers any item under about £3k I think, inside the home our out. Princey might have something similar

I really feel sorry for people who cant have emotional attachment to inanimate objects - there are plenty of things that I own which have sentimental value, even things with zero monetary value.

Things I've been given by important people in my life, things that I've acquired during memorable times... just because the object can be replaced, doesnt mean the sentimental value can be. This sounds exactly like Princey's situation so I do feel really bad for him - I know h'es also put a lot of work into the car which also adds to the emotional attachments.

That's not even starting to scratch the surface of the sense of personal violation, feeling of insecurity etc that comes along with these things and that insurance cant pay for

I feel for you mate, especially so after seeing your new sig :(

At the end of the day, yes it is just rubber and metal, thats to anyone outside the situation, just like I'm sure a lot of people would say if it happened to mine. A lot of people don't have a personal attachment to cars etc.. which is fair enough, but people who own a nice/expensive/personalised/tuned car, such as Princey falling into one of these brackets, will feel more than just the loss of "A lump of metal".

It's been found in Alumn Rock in Brum lol hardly supprising. A member of the public noticed that the tax disc didn't match the plates.
