Hi,

Been paintballing a few times when I was younger and always suffered from having the mask misting up. I just assumed that's normal until I went paintballing again the other day with my friends.

Basically my mate who had brought along his own helmet had to sit out a round for taking his mask off before he got to the safe zone. Not having a use for it till the next game he said I could wear it, and it was a totally different experience basically no misting at all!

Paintballing is expensive and the misting up really ruins the experience for me, I am older now with money and would happily buy a decent mask for next time.

So can anybody recommend a really good mist proof mask? Comfort, hearing ect is a bonus :)

thanks!

Little tip mate.

I am on the police public order unit and to stop my visor misting up I use washing up liquid on some tissue paper or cloth and wipe the inside.

It stops the misting up for quite a while and when it runs out just repeat.

It will cost you no more than some cheap washing up liquid and a bog roll and works every time.

Other option is to spit in itt and wipe it around as well. Problem is the people that lent you the mask may take exception to that so best only do it on one you bought. :p

haha spit and washing up liquid was not the responses I was expecting! :p

How does that even work? Surely I would get sore eyes from the washing up liquid fumes?

personally, empire e-vents are my choice in masks even though im planet with all my other gear.

The anti fog system used is awsome and i have never been fogged up ingame, woods or tourney.

Empire e-vents are great. I have a pair aswell. A decent mask will NEVER fog up like the crap that you will use at sites that lend it to you for a day. That mask will have been worn (and sweated in) by hundreds of different people before you.

I've never had to use any of the things they pass off on you at sites like water and tissues or specialist sprays on my own mask since I've got it, even when wearing it for three hours at a time.

I got my e-vents for 50 pounds (including postage) on e-bay, but I've heard of them going for around 40 aswell.

However, the e-vents has quite a low profile (it doesn't fully cover your forehead) so if you have not paintballed often it may not be for you. I wear a beanie with mine.

Cheers guys, so some cleaner of some kind to create a film which helps to stop the misting. Got it :)

Now that empire e vents mask looks awesome and seems like everyone is raving about it. I know you say it is low profle but as a noob that looks pretty much like the ones we had on site i.e. no top or back of head protection.

Only prob with the e vents is price as they seem to be £80 plus! Deffo not anywhere near £40-50 on the bay anymore

deadkomodo if you're not put off by the low profile then go for it, definately.

With regards to the price; a LOT of people in the paintball scene are very trendy and always like to have the newest / best gear. So you'll find people putting as good as new things on ebay or selling it between themselves for a lot cheaper than the initial retail price.

If you register at the http://www.p8ntballer-forums.com/vb/ you'll be able to buy one from another member a lot cheaper on there. (By asking who has one in the Wanted section or finding one for sale already)

I was initially looking at getting the Proto Axis mask aswell when deciding what to get, but nobody in the Aberdeen paintball society had even heard of it when I mentioned it to them. That doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad mask, but I put more trust in firsthand experience than website reviews. It also helped that I was able to try one of the types I was looking at on before buying it - which is something I couldn't do with the Proto as no one had one.

I could not hear very well and it felt quite uncomfortable!

One thing to be aware of is that when you're communicating in the events it does feel like shouting into a bucket. Everyone is still able to hear you clearly but it rattles around your head a bit, though I have seen newer versions with more of the 'mouth slits'.

To stop my scuba mask misting up I rub toothpaste on and rinse after 20 mins, works a treat.

Toothpaste, shampoo, washing liquid etc basically leave a thin film behind, and cost a lot less than the 'specialist' things.

A mild shampoo (baby shampoo to be precise) is an excellent defogger. Put 1 to 2 drops on the lens and smear it lightly and evenly over the surface, paying attention to the seals.

i would suggest the dye i4

mine is superb, if a little small

problem is that it is quite expensive

but they dont steam up

you really need to assess weather or not the frequency of your paintballing requires an expensive goggle system.

realistically the best goggles you can afford is the way to go, it will set you up better and mean you can see who is shooting at you :)

as suggested, the P8nt forum is a great place to get started, they have a vibrant community and a good 'for sale' section on there. a few of my colleagues managed to pick their markers up from there and i just got a new marker off there so its a trustworthy place to go for.
