What's a good restaurant for a family meal (for a 21st birthday) in Bristol? Something slightly upmarket but not extortionate. Ideally not too busy, and interesting food is a plus!

Currently thinking of going to Dynasty, which we've been too before, but any other suggestions would be great :)

Brasserie Blanc in cabot circus is supposed to be quite nice.

The Clifton Sausage is different and quite nice, relatively informal and good food.

Yep top table is great.
Sergios is amazing, by the hatchet/ice rink, but it is very busy. Food can be expensive depends what you order massive menu but it,s bring your own, so keeps cost down. Remeber you pay postage.

Yes, Brasserie Blanc should be very good. They had some teething problems when I went shortly after it opened but hopefully they have ironed those out by now. The Leeds one is fantastic. If you go the Bristol one, make sure you get a table downstairs - there's more of a buzz going on. Upstairs has more of an odd stilted atmosphere with those weird church cubicles.

Seven Shed would be another alternative. Good mainstream food at decent prices and live jazz if you go on Sundays.

Entelia (Greek) on Whiteladies, just before the shopping centre is very good. The mezzes are excellent and interesting. Book well in advance if you're going on Fri/Sat because they can get busy.

Ah, I miss Bristol. Nottingham is a ****hole in comparison.

I can vouch that San Carlo is great. The food is really excellent, though it does tend to have a fairly 'corporate' atmosphere.

What did you think of the food at Goldbrick House, Russinating? A bit overpriced?

I love Goldbrick as a drinking/meeting venue, but yes, the food can be a little overpriced and I think the restaurant area lacks a bit of atmosphere/quirkyness that the other rooms have in bundles. The food was very good though, and I can't remember it being ridiculously expensive (~£14 for a lamb dish or something).

I also went there for a summer BBQ on the patio upstairs which was much nicer!

Yeah, Goldbrick is fabulous as an interesting meeting/drinking venue though they need to crank the music down as bit because you end up shouting just to have a conversation. Maybe the restaurant will pick up given time - the room really needs to be a bit bigger though.

Love the goldbrick house BBQ is very good, brilliant albeit expensive place to drink. Never eaten there though.

The rummer hotel is abaolutley fantastic food, although not really a family place.

I dined at Brasserie Blanc Last week.

The food was excellent, as was the service, its location is handy, just outside the new city center cabot circus complex, so other facilities are easily accessible.

Check the menu first, Raymond is a Frenchie, and although the food is of great quality and prepared well, it may not be to your pallet.

Thanks for the pointers. Ended up going for Dynasty in the end as we didn't have much time to decide :o

I do now have a list of places to go in the future though:
  • Noa – was going to go to this one but it was closed
  • Brasserie Blanc
  • Clifton Sausage
  • Severn Shed – my friend's dad actually designed this, but I still haven't been :p
