Škoda Auto (Czech pronunciation: [ˈʃkoda]), more commonly known as Škoda, is an automobile manufacturer based in the Czech Republic. Škoda became a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group in 1991. Its total sales reached 684,226 cars in 2009.

So, back on topic, whats the car like? I find it hard to believe I've found a car that OCUK Motors doesn't have "knowledge" or at least an opinion on.

Pretty expensive are they not, I thought you were leveraging synergies for increased capital for portfolio expansion or something?

A decent 06 starts at about £8k IIRC. It's basically a slightly softer Golf GTI Mk5.

I've found decent 06 plate ones for around £7k, about the money I was looking at 330s for.

Seems like a lot of car for the money if it is built on the MK5 GTI platform? Considering a MK5 Golf GTI of a similar age and mileage would probably be £12k up.

Is this still your money saving exercise?

A decent vRS is about 9k, your car is worth 10~11k, so an utterly pointless change

They showed me valuations from two different services when they gave me £500 over book value, I later verified by paying £3 on the Glass's site.

My car trades at £13,100, a vRS can be had for around £7k as I've already stated, thats nearly a 50% release.

A quick scan of Pistonheads reveals only one Mk2 vRS for sale at £7k - the rest are pretty much £8k and above confirming my suspicions (supported by what I still beleive to be an accurate trade valuation) that £7k Mk2's are the bottom of the barrel.

There are only two for under £7k on the whole of Autotrader - one of which has 126k miles on it which I guess isnt the sort of thing you are after.

So, not really seeing that 'a vRS can be had for around £7k'.

I also doubt many dealers will give you spot on trade money in a sale which involves cash your way, either. They'll sense the 'desperation' (ie, the fact you have to trade it) and offers will reflect this.

If you are finding your Focus unaffordable at present then its probably best to go for something that will yield a genuine saving without having to scrape the barrel, perhaps a nice, reasonabely late sub £5k Mk1 will be a better buy?
