MK2 Octavia VRS

I appreciate you proving my point that £7k isn't really the right budget for a vRS by bombarding me with links to cars advertised at £1000 more than that :)

I doubt the seller of the only sub £7k one - a private seller - is going to want your Focus in part ex.

When you need cash your way with a tradein the ball is very much in the court of the seller not the buyer. I doubt you'll be negotiating much if any discount as they'll know that you are limited in your choice of dealers.

I said trade book was about £6500. This would give you a retail price of circa £8k. He said this was wrong and then posted links to a bunch of dealers flogging cars for... circa £8k. I've made my point, bed time now :p

I always wanted a mk2 focus st and would be trading in an 05 mk2 focus for it, but they always seem so expensive and I normally only have between 2 and 3k saved spare money in the bank.

The skoda octavia VRS in that blue seems like a decent alternative for someone like me. Is the running costs much cheaper than the ST too (based upon the OP changing I am assuming so just wanted it confirmed) :) ?

I thought you were leveraging synergies for increased capital for portfolio expansion or something

Ahahaha, thanks for my monday morning laugh! :D

Am I the only one who prefers the facelift model?

One thing I dont like on these cars is the interior, it feels odd, like it was from a smaller vehicle, if that makes sense, for the size of the car I think it should have a lot more soft touchy stuffs, and be more cosseting. But i guess for the price maybe not.

On top of other costs I hope you dont plan on getting serviced from a main dealer either :( ridiculous labour charges.

Fuel wise, the vRS is a lot more economical than the ST.

Tyres etc. will be similar.

Servicing and parts will likely cost more being VAG.

What about the 4 cars that were closer to £7k?

Yes, I admitted at the time, some were pretty much £8k, but it was an example of what could be had for the money, £1k over budget to find the right car isn't totally unreasonable anyway.

If you are finding your Focus unaffordable at present then its probably best to go for something that will yield a genuine saving without having to scrape the barrel, perhaps a nice, reasonabely late sub £5k Mk1 will be a better buy?

I've only just seen this since your crafty edit - It isn't about it being affordable, its about releasing some "equity" - I need ~£5k essentially. If I don't find something acceptably suitable, I could happily keep the ST and simply wait until I've saved the money, but unfortunately I'm impatient.

If the majority are selling for 8k, you've got to wonder why someone would sell theirs for less?

"I rather like my Octy vRS"
*Runs away and hides - sorry, my mistake. Thought this was a vRS thread, it appears to be one on prices, which price is closer to £7k and the merrits of haggling*

Also, we live in a fairly big country - different cars will sell for different money all over the country. Different cars will sell well and poorly in different parts of the country, too.

Borrow the 5k and keep your Focus, its a better car imho.

Janesby, you often have little bargaining power when you are trading a vehicle worth more than the one you are looking at - ie there is no cash/finance in the deal.

I'm just about to be potentially borrowing 180k, the last thing I want to do is borrow an extra £5k on a personal loan - No, this is not how I'm going to do it. I'm not all that fussed about sacrificing the ST, I can always replace it in a year or two.

Janesy, It probably isn't going to be impossible to sell it, but it will certainly be difficult and no doubt filled with hassle and stress.

I was going to post a similar thread on these.
I've been trying to think what to replace my Avensis with and have been struggling.

I want to retain the same rough size and was looking at the Octy vRS and the Mondeo ST220.
Very different engines, but the same sized large hatchbacks with decent amounts of power.

I've heard the ST220 V6 sounds lovely, but it seems to be a lot more thirsty from what I've read and the N/A engine isn't easy to tune. The vRS is less thirsty and is more tuneable, but is probably less 'interesting'.
At a budget of £10k, is there anything else I should be looking at?
I've kind of discounted the 330 as I think servicing and running costs may beout of my budget longer term.

Sorry, should have been clearer, I want a hatchback which was another reason I'm discounting the 330.
