...and has it become anywhere near worth buying yet?

I'm looking to upgrade my launch PSP1000 to either a PSP3000 or a Go. And despite being very scathing of the Go at launch, i've softened a bit on my stance.

The PSP Go has 16GB storage, and it's a gorgeous bit of kit, good battery, nice weight, and nice to use. You don't have to carry around your games with you.

But the 3000 has storage through the expansion slot, is also slim and nice on the hands, and you can buy second-hand games at reduced price for it. There is no second hand market for the Go. You pay what Sony wants you to pay, and that's that - for good.

And the big sticking point - the 3000 i've seen for £100, and the Go for double that. It's a tall order - asking double when there's also the potential for extra cost afterwards due to the constrained game market.

So, what are everyone else's opinions?

I've not seen it advertised recently and their are rumours a while back that they're going to relaunch the device at a lower price point to compete with the DSI/XL.

I'm looking at the Go as well because I want Peace Walker when it comes out, but I'm sticking it out to see if they're relaunching it.

I'd say the PSPgo is relatively pointless. As you said other PSP already has a storage option and that 16gb storage on the go will be used to have games on it anyway and when it runs out you'll need to buy more memory stuff or do the deleting and redownloading whenever you want to switch games (hardly what you want in a portable system where you're meant to go, not stop delete, redownload and go). You could easily find a small space in your pockets or a bag for any extra games with the PSP3000 and so unless you really have something stopping you being able to carry the games around I don't see the point in it at all.

I've just found the PSP Go online for £150 with an additional 5% student discount.

Very tempting now.

Not having to carry your games around with you is a pretty poor argument in the decision to get a Go.

- You can do that with a standard PSP, it involves modding but you can still buy the games before putting them on a memory stick. So you are buying games legally and funding the business.
- The extra cost of buying games from the PS store for the Go is too much over second hand and usually new versions of UMD games bought elsewhere

If you already have a PSP-1000 though personally I'd go for a DS and get some variety, no idea if you already have one though.

They need more content available on the store and it what is there needs to be cheaper. They are at least running special offers now, there's some reasonable deals on there at the moment.

It's a great bit of kit and far more portable - but the PSP3000 can do everything the Go can (bar bluetooth) for a lot less. But the £150 deal you've found is much more reasonable than £220...

You can use custom firmware on PSP 1000 and 2000 (not sure about the 3000) and then use a bit of software to rip the UMDs you buy to the memory card. It's a little bit of a hassle but can save you a lot of money. This then means you also have a nice physical copy of the game (Whereas with the Go you dont) and you could possibly buy used games for cheaper.

I'm a little biased though since I really don't like the look of the PSP Go.

I have a psp go and got one word CRAP!!!

wish i had got a psp with the UMD drive as yeah you can download games and save a carrying them but you cant get all the games that are out on umd still waiting for crysis core to come out on market for go

I love my psp go now.

At first I was very undecided, but now that they are running some very good special offers on the PSN store it feels a lot more value for money.

I am still very careful what I buy, knowing I cant trade it in, but because of that I try to make sure I finish games and just pick ones I know will be good.

I prefer the layout of it and how it feels in my hand - and even prefer it to my DS lite.

The faster load times are noticable and I have downloaded a fair bit form the Store and the internal storage is still just over half full.

For £150 it is a nice piece of hardware.

From the few replies from people that have a Go! it sounds pretty bad as most expected it would be.

Some very popular games not available to buy from PSN with no option to buy it on UMD and having to carefully pick games you know you will enjoy and complete due to being unable to sell it on if you dislike it.

Large failure form Sony with the Go! I reckon.

I was looking to get a PSP Go during the week but even paying £150 I still couldn’t justify buying one. Hope this rumour of a relaunch at a lower price is true. Even though I already own an original DS, DS Lite and DSi. I managed to catch an undercover deal at Argos and picked up a DSi XL for £107. So for me to get a PSP Go now is no longer appealing alongside my PSP 1000 and 2000.

I've briefly used the Go and, while i think it's still too expensive for what it is, i think it's far more comfortable to use than my old PSP 1000. I can barely last more than 10 mins on my PSP before hand cramp kicks in, whereas i could see me playing a lot longer without issue on the Go.

Obviously everyone is different in that department, so i'd suggest getting your hands on a display model or something to see if it is indeed more comfortable for you.

I'd personally buy a normal PSP, you can get games on UMD disks really cheaply nowadays and you also always can sell them if you don't like the game or if you complete the game and no longer wish to play it.

theres not a lot of psp games on the store which imo makes the go pretty pointless and what is there is over priced compared to umd's i see in the shops.

edit: the go has a smaller screen on it as well.

As much as I appreciate the advice, I haven't ever, and won't be modding any PSP I own, sorry.

Interesting thing about Crisis Core though - probably my favourite PSP game and I won't be able to play it on the Go?

That's a pretty serious problem. :(
