There already was a

thread, thought they had stock?

Indeed.
Obviously a trick to encourage pre-orders.

Thing is, if they have taken pre-orders, how soon can they for-fill, I mean they could have hundreds of orders for cards and still no decent stock, I guess we will see if any member on here gets their card sent out and they post about it, although I don't know of many members who have actual pre-ordered one.

don't forget that as soon as you pre-order, Overclockers take the cash from your account. So you might have pre-ordered 2 weeks ago, cash has been taken and no sign of your gfx card for another 3-4 weeks after!

which in my eyes isnt right

I remember when buying my 4870 with a certain other etailer I preordered and then noticed one day they were showing as in free stock but my preorder hadnt been fulfilled.

Turned out their stock system worked that they get added to free stock first then every day the process ran to fulfill preorders which took from any available free stock!

Some on here have pre-ordered, I'm sure. Presumably OCUK would have limited pre-orders to the number of cards they [at least thought they] would be getting so they had a good change of fulfilling them? Wouldn't be very good to take hundreds of pre-orders, and the cash, when they have no clue when they're gonna be able to fulfill them.

I predict people will have a long wait for thier pre-orders, if the launch numbers and the yield numbers speculated in the media are to be believed.

re:

It looks like that. I really want a fermi but I cant deny nvidia have royally mucked this cards launch up. Over in the US there seems to be a fair few people with their cards, I just wish we were in the same position as they are.

Well, i pre-ordered two ASUS 480 GTX's. One from OCUK and one from else where.
I only ordered from here as they listed as quote "06/04/2010" for release, while else where listed as the 12th.

I only want one card, and i'll be cancelling the other order as soon as i get an email saying "Your order has been shipped".

And right now, i hope its the other place that comes through first.. Not just because it was £418.57, but because OCUK lied on release to gain more pre-orders.

No. They gave an ETA (Estimated Time for Arrival) based on the information they had. At no point did they say it will 100% definitely be arriving on xyz date

That is precisely how the system works.

Well I'm sure OCUK are not alone, and I suppose you can't really blame the retailers for grabbing people's cash as soon as they can! I guess the real 'silly award' goes to all those who've actually pre-ordered one of these given all the rumours of next to no availability at launch:confused: Not to mention the price/performance/heat.....

They have already said about pre orders just before the weekend on here. From memory the Asus was 68 with all the other makes having about a dozen each pre-order.

So about 130 pre-orders in total on the gtx 480. Pretty sure that was Friday though so it may wel have increased since then.

I suspect anybody ordering an Asus today may well have quite a wait until loads come in soon.

Not bad though, £58k of money banked while they wait for them to come in ;)
