Don't understand how anyone can think this is a good idea tbh :confused::confused:

It will end up doing one of 2 things:

-Lowering the overall % turnout
-Having Xfactor winners running (successfully) as MP's.

I dunno. 16 = old enough to marry (with parents permission), legally have kids, smoke, fight and die for your country, but not old enough to vote?

I thought frontline service wasn't until you're 18?

No at 16 in the UK technically to this day you can sign up and be transferred to the front line.

England (alongside just a few African countries) got taken to the UN because of it. Child soldiers.

We got out of it because in reality squaddies get about 9 months of training before they're shipped anywhere, then are shipped off to Northern Ireland to be spat at by the locals for 2 years*. So in practice 16 year old kids never are actually ordered to charge at Terry Taliban, instead performing purely 'peace-keeping' roles in relatively non-hot zones.

*I'm not sure if it's still 2 years ..?

Ah I see. so in theory, you could be sent out at 16 after training, but in reality, you are going to be given more time/experience first.

You should have seen one of his previous edits to that reply :)

Meh :(

To stay on topic though. Today we got a letter from the lib dems, written by vince cable explaining about what would happen in my local area. We've had numerous leaflets and letters from them now keeping us "up-to date" with their standing.

I live in Hull by the way, which is historically a labour seat. However lib dem have been 2nd to labour in the last 3 elections in hull on votes, with conservatives third. Due to this, we all got a leaflet from the lib dems explaining that voting conservative in hull is basically putting labour back in power lol. Quite an interesting argument if I say so myself.

Same for my area. I vote Lib Dem and they're in power in my area (Bristol West) which is convenient, but Labour are second and Conservatives are a distant distant third - which is odd as it's a higher-demographic area which is traditionally Conservative.

Anyway, the letter from my local currently in-power MP also says that a vote for Conservative instead of Lib Dem will just be helping Labour to power.

Interesting stuff. I can see them getting the hull seat this time round as literally everyone I know is voting lib dem as they seem to offer the average "lower/working" class area's and familys more than the traditional labour and conservative candidates and policy's.

Speaking to my girlfriend about this and jokingly saying come with me to vote, she has said she doesn't care for it and will not bother voting. She is 27 this year and has never voted at all.

I wonder if those title pages in the manifesto are Gordon's own handywork.

Apathy is the greatest threat to democracy.

My wife says 'they're all as bad as each other' and I hate it! Lazy thinking! It means 'I can't be bothered to think about their differences so whatever'!!

I know loads of people who have a link between thinking politics is "boring" and not voting due to that reason :S Crazy world we live in haha

To be fair, she's spot on Britboy.

I don't condone voter apathy at all, but how can we trust anything we're told from the three leaders in the next few weeks?

Indeed, I normally know who I will vote for, but this time I do not have a clue!

I just do not trust one thing that I hear during these next four weeks.
