I've decided to upgrade my 3 year old laptop and have narrowed it down to these two, though I can't decide which will be better:

Dell:

15.6" High Definition (1366x768) WLED
IntelCore i7-720QM Mobile Processor (1.6GHz, turbo up to 2.8GHz, 6MB L3 Cache)
1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD5470 Graphics Card
4096MB 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [2x2048]
500GB (7,200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive

£749

Mesh:

Intel Core i5 520M Dual Core Processor (2.4GHz, 3MB Cache, 2.5GT/s)
15.6" FULL HD LED Display (1920x1080)
1GB ATi Mobility Radeon HD5650 Graphics - DX11
4GB DDR3 1066MHz Memory (2x1GB)
250GB Serial ATA 5400RPM 2.5" Hard Drive

£707

Which of these would be more suited for gaming?

Thanks :)

I'm looking at the DELL myself aswell using the 620 cpu as opposed to the 720. The higher clockspeed may help with games more, but I'm trying to look into that. Studio 15 isn't it?

The stronger MESH graphics card would make it more suited to gaming however.

Aye it's the Studio 15. My current laptop is a dell, and it's only just starting to let me down.

The gfx on the mesh would be a benefit, but I'm not sure how much of a bottleneck the i5 will be when compared to an i7/ slightly weaker gfx.

Becareful with those Dell Studio 15's. the older 4570's used to throttle whilst gaming due to the smallest heatsink and thermal pad. I had to replace the thermal pad with a copper shim to stop the throttling which meant dismantling the whole laptop.

also the whole studio range has been throttling with the i7's due to the high wattage with only a 90w adapter. They have started admitting fault and replacing the 90w adapters for the sxps 16 so I guess they will all get the fix eventually
