Assasin's creed 2 worth getting?

AC2 was one of the best games I've played, and actually ranks as my GOTY for last year. Flowed very well, kept me very interested and just generally rocked!

I'm near the end of the game now on the 360 version which I got at release. The gameplay mostly revolves around two things, free running and combat. Combat is so frigging boring that it's unbelievable. It involves no skill, no challenge, no variety, nothing.

The free running part is pretty good, thanks a lot to the great work that has gone into designing the towns and cities of renaissance italy. It's not perfect though, and it can be very frustrating when the computer interprets your controls and sends you off in a direction that you didn't want to go. There is also the fact that most of the free running involves running through the streets, which is terribly boring. The only thing you have to do is occassionally avoid running into people. The reason for this is that while free running on rooftops is infinitely more enjoyable, for most purposes it takes about 2-3 times longer to get anywhere by roof than by street. The extra need of travelling vertically, having to find ways across big gaps between streets and having to avoid/kill archers just takes way too much time.

The biggest downfall of it all is that there is no challenge in the game. Some of the timed free running runs are quite interesting, but I've never failed one. Even in one I screwed up half way through, fell down went through the whole thing again and still made it in time. The only times I've died was from jumping from buildings, because the computer wont let you make certain angles. If there was any sort of challenge or difficulty it might be able to hold my attention a lot better.

As it is, I usually play for 20min stretches before getting bored.
