The Official Football Manager 2010 Thread

I certainly feel your pain Tombstone; the "And that's his first goal for XXX" seems to happen way too much for my liking. I have an almost unbeatable Barca save, and a slightly less unbeatable Wednesday save. The shooting from [too much] range is something that more often applies to my Barca team; more specifically Xavi. I am trying a modified tactic at the moment, so it might be that, but he is going for ~10 shots a game, many more than Ibra up front; most of them from bloody miles away. Despite changing his settings to reduce it as much as I can, it never changes and it is knackering his season average, and as a result his morale.

Your thoughts on 3D mode are nowt more than superstition, though :p

URGHHHHH! This game frustrates me so much some times....

Right iv done a game as Southampton (who are now really fun to be as they get loads of cash from the chairman like in real life :D) and I destroyed League 1. Then got lucky with the Championship as i spent all my money on Bojinov instead of defenders and Bolton went into admin so i won the league by 6 points.

Now here's the problem, im in the prem and i need a whole new back line. There just isnt any good reason to even attempt the prem with fonte (seen him in real life too much do what can only be described as a FONTE-****-UP!!!) but i cant seem to get my hands on a decent back line. Any hints for the best back 4 to get going in the prem? I have 30m to spend, some of which is needed for a new keeper (Fullop isnt prem quality really) and i want Jo who's always transfer listed and creates goals out of nothing if set as tarquestia....

Cézar Azpilicueta is always one of my first choice defenders. Pricey, if you want him in the first season, but Osasuna usually get relegated so he can be had for cheaper after that. Danny Wilson and David Luiz are supposed to be good. Tommy Spurr and Mark Beevers from Wednesday are also worth a look. Then there is Sídnei, Fazio, Kjaer, Sakho, Zapata. Gabriel Milito can be had, but his wages are likely to be daft.

Create a search from your favorite defender and spend a few minutes checking them out :)
 
MoratJG your a legend! Azpilicueta looks AWESOME! tempted by a few other the others too, i know Sakho is one of the best players in the game, i took him to newcastle for 12m in another game and man u wanted to buy hin for 27m!!

Im 3rd season now and milito is the free guy everyone fights for....

Heh. Welcome, mate :)

He's hardly a FM secret, though sometimes overlooked. Just be aware; he tracks back well but can be a weak link if your opposition plays very wide. Make sure you have a good header as CB.

Mattock also goes straight on my watch list. A solid player from the first season; happy to play back-up due to his age; develops into a very good squad/rotation player and can always be sold for a profit if you get him early.

Marcano is another very solid player. Best as CB. Good pace, and very good in the air. He was a great buy in '09 when he was at Racing and costs a little more in '10, but if the price is right, he's a gem.
 
Sakho is ridiculous, so unrealistic how much they want for him. Asked as Juventus and they wanted THIRTY SEVEN MILLION. Mind you Palermo wanted 32m for Kjaer, wish SI would fix the transfer system :(

The pricing does seem hopelessly unrealistic. I'm four seasons in on my Barca save and the team is pretty set. That said, I had pot loads of cash and wanted to bring in a super-star CB to play alongside Piqué. First choice was Chiellini. Fair enough, he's a massive name but Juve wanted £139m; there are very few teams that get that amount over two seasons, let alone one.

It just seems that prices reflect a teams stature, and their current transfer pot more than they do any "real world" value.

Meh, I paid £40m over 48 months - that was after he transfered somewhere for £18-20m, though. Plus...I'm Man City :p
 
I know this may be difficult to believe but I've only just got round to buying FM2010. So can someone quickly say which are the must have facepacks and skins? Also what are the essential inc files to use to remove fake names, give proper league names etc? Or will old ones form 2009 work ok without modding?
 
Just got this having not played Manager games since back when Championship Manager was the best one around.

Pleased to see it's very much the same just with a few changes, enjoying it so far.

Slightly displeased at having to pay £35 million for Akinfeev but he's a decent keeper :p

Michael Carrick is getting transfer listed now. :D

Theres a good prem club logo one there too :) (it helps to sign up to it to get unlimited downloads)

Dunno if you can mod the old ones though....
 
Right after a week of anguish and frustration i finally created my perfect back line that should serve me well over the next 4-5 seasons in the prem at southampton :D

Left back: Dodo for 6m, at 20 and 10,250 a week only one word AWESOME!!! Several prem teams are interested and i can only say NO!

Right back: Cesar Azpilicueta which cost me overall 15m (8 up front and the rest over 48 months). Again, best buy possible really.

Centre back 1: Botia for 3.6m, turns out arsenal wanted him if senderos left so i nabbed him as senderos ALWAYS goes to everton :(

Centre back 2: Gabriel Milito on a free :D, 55k a week is pretty good. Weakist link of my back 4 but is still good.

Really wanted to excitedly shout in the christmas transfer window I secured Mamadou Sakho for a total of 11m (5 over 48 months) :D and havnt been more excited about FM!!

Anyone got any tips for good strikers? I have Bojinov as my target man up front whos pretty good (got him for the championship and have been very pleased with the 2.3m he cost) and I have Macheda (24m over 4 years) who's just amazing, hes just not fit enough to play all the time as tarquestia (forward play maker). I still have Lambert and a regen touted as the next Brian McBride but i need someone to bolster my strike force....
 
I guess it should be in the Apple software forum, but I've just seen that they are releasing Football Manager for the iPhone/iTouch :). Will be interesting to see what it's like!

Made a boob on FM last night. Praised some players too early. I praise the players I want by interacting with them every month. I did so last night but forget to actually wait a month from the first praises and just praised them all as soon as the new month hit. :(:o

Might have to start a new FM game. ;)

I hate it when things like that happen :( sometimes you just forget who you really want....

On the plus my ego has been boosted massively with bobby charlton (the new owner of man u) offering me 46k a week to be the manager of man u!!! :cool: not taking it though as my soton team finished a place higher in my first prem season and ill get more money to spend in the transfer market... (i want ROSSI!!!)
