Who has SKY HD+?

Been 2 weeks now since I upgraded to Sky+ HD and HD content is breathtaking, shame standard def is poor on some channels. We got the samsung box as well and so far has been excellent.

I'm sure they've reduced bitrate of SD stuff.

Just had this installed, got an Amstrad box which im happy enough with. SD quality is greatly approved which i was surprised at :) The new menu system is fantastic as well, well worth the upgrade for me.

1st minor annoyance found, certain HD programs are not in widescreen format, wheras they are fine on the SD channels e.g the simpsons and friends. Is there any way to change this or can someone explain why its like this? Cheers

Not sure, sounds like you are viewing SD programs on HD channels, which is a little pointless. The Simpsons only started airing in HD from series 20.

Check the aspect ratio settings on the box's and Tv's options.

Yeah thats what i am doing, i dont see the point in watching both sky1 and sky1 HD when i might as well just leave it on the HD channel since they show the same stuff. Aspect ratio is fine i just dont get why some shows are suddenly in 4:3

The HD channel shows the programme as it's meant to be shown. You are use to Friends and The Simpsons being stretched out to widescreen, which is the wrong way to view it.

Always watch the HD version of a simulcast channel, it will show everything the way it's meant to be viewed

I noticed the same thing the other day. Have I understood you correctly in that the makers of the simpsons are making them in 4:3 ratio? It does seem backward.

Yes they are and yes it is. Same situation applies to family guy, south park and plenty more. The Cleveland Show is the first of the Seth Mac gang to actually be produced in widescreen.

Just curious, is anybody elses Sky HD box extremely slow at navigating round the Planner, and changing channel etc. Since we got the update to the new EPG on our Samsung box it has been getting slower and slower. Went to the planner today and it took 30 seconds just to change from the EPG to the planner O.o

Is it like this for anyone else, or just me?

Shouldn't be that slow, unless of course the drive was spinning up after coming out of standby.

Tried a planner rebuild and reboot?

EPG is the 7 day list of shows due to air and their times/channels. Planner is the list of recordings and programs set to be recorded.

They are shown together now, but still separate things.

I recently put a 1TB disk in my Pace HD box, using Copy+ to transfer my programs, and I noticed that the EPG side of things actually sped up compared to the old disc. Why that should make a difference I don't know. But, like the poster above, as it as filled with more and more stuff the planner side of things has got slower and slower, I guess its simply due to the number of filenames. I currently have 33% free and it is still pretty slow.

We bought our own Sky+ HD box a few years ago out of our own pocket, and married the card to it etc.

We wanted to take advantage of the free Sky+ HD offer with the £10 a month sub but they're not having it, they have us down as being on Sky+ HD but they never supplied us the box, hardly fair that they should refuse us the deal based on that !

Just use a different name, same situation here.

Moved from sky+Hd to V+ about 8 weeks ago now. Couldn't be happier. V+ box is fantastic not slow at all (apart from on demand stuff), 3 tuners is brilliant.

For basically the same price as I was paying sky. (£45 for sky and £15 for bt, Virgin £66)
I get an extra V+ box and 50mb broad band compared to 3.5mb on sky.
