ATI HD5770 1GB & Asus P5K Premium Question

Hi All,

I am looking at purchasing the HD 5770 to replace my aging ATI X1950XT. I have noticed that the new card supports PCIe 2.0 so will it work with my Asus P5K Premium (which I believe is PCIe v1)? If it will work any suggestions on a particular brand to go for? XFX pre overlcok GPU and mem, most of the others dont. Would it be worth saving a couple of quid and overclock it my self?

Also can anyone recommend a good third party cooler for it as I know that the stock coolers are generally pretty crud in comparison.

It will works on PCI-E 1.0 slots.

As for wanting a better cooler for for the 5770, you could save yourself the trouble and just grab a Sapphire Vapor-X version:

The Asus one also has a good cooler, plus it supports voltage tweak (the sapphire toxic versions no longer do), BUT they removed eyefinity support and swapped the display port to a VGA output :x

Theres currently no 3rd party cooler that fits the asus 5770 and even if there was it's struggle to match the vapor-x with the same profile. Save yourself the hassle and just get the vapor-x, just plug in and works

The Vapor X cant be overvolted! They have removed voltage tweaking entirely off the thing. The cooler on the Asus one is already a really good one, just like the Vapor X one.
