Hi all, (sorry if its in the wrong thread, wasn't sure where to put it)

i was on another forum earlier where they too have a forum for members to buy/sell stuff.
Like OCUK they have a rule where you can only have 1 (2 for OCUK) thread in the For Sale forum, whether its open or closed. (you have the option to archive it, so you can open a new thread).
When i inadvertently tried creating a new FS thread it threw up a dialog telling me i already had 1 thread in them forum, it even hotlinked me to it, which i though was very informative and didn't result in a ban.

I've inadvertently done the same on OCUK and got banned.....without warning, notice or otherwise....which seems very harsh.

Can OCUK not incorporate a similar system where it automates a response telling you that you already have a thread in the forum? Surely its not hard. It would avoid pee'ing members off, cos they could be banned a little unfairly imho.

At the moment you have to trawl through ALL your subscribed threads to check you don't have any more than the max allowed threads in MM.

Surely implementing this automessgae would alleviate the extra work on the mods as well as help the members out and avoid bannings?

I know most would say its the members responsibility, but that's still a little harsh, especially if your a very regular poster (i'm somewhere in the middle i guess).
When i got banned for this infraction (without realising) it cost me and some other members sale/purchaes from MM as i was banned and couldn't respond to posts.

I think its definitely worth considering guys, please?

I'd imagine the reply will be they don't want to, among other reasons would be that it could create an extra load for the servers that run the forums.

Use the search function and input your username while selecting only to search in the Members Market or For Sale subforums. Results of those few threads will be returned.

not sure if it can be done but it easy to see how amny threads you have

go to advanced search

search by user name

select "find threads started by user"

and select member market

Before you start a thread, search for threads started by your user name in the subforum, its not that hard :)

Lots of people do get suspended for not checking. It's all in the FAQ and MM rules though, there's not really an excuse if you can read, which I'm guessing most here can. I'd say I don't want to insult anyone who isn't literature, but how would they know! It can be our secret.

It's easy enough to just make sure you've closed old ones before starting a new sale.

Just search by your username.

Out of interest, do many people use Subscribed Threads? I don't think I've ever subscribed to a thread before...

Nope.

I can understand the OP comment, sounds reasonable but it just won't happen here. It's so much "easier" for you to check yourself which really defeats the OP's comment about that in the first place.

/shrug

I've got it set to automatically subscribe me to every thread I post in so when I go to User CP I can see if there are any new responses to threads I've been posting in - it saves me trying to remember and usually if I've posted in a thread I'm interested enough to see the responses.

It sounds like you're subscribing to every thread?

If you can't use the Search options, then only subscribe to your MM threads, that way, you can easily see from your User CP which threads you're currently subscribed to, and ensure you only have the requisite number of threads currently active.

This works.
I've just done it to find my threads in the MM.

It's asking for a technical solution which will require time and effort to counter the lack of common sense or forum etiquette that gets people suspended.
The policy is in place and is highly publicised so I don't see why a technical 'fix' should be impeimented just for those who don't bother to follow it.

Or could be simply seen as a handy tool which would be useful to enable if vb supports it.

I never use subscriptions to threads, either I chance over a previous thread, or any replies aimed at me get lost in the abyss

It is incredibly easy to get a ban on this forum, I know it can be annoying but what you did was marked out clearly, I got banned because someone said they wouldn't accept offers and I said well I have £xx in paypal so how about that? was only £1 or so lower than what he asked, I got a 3 day suspension for that

That's a little harsh. These forums can be harsh sometimes, but it's only to make sure people actually make an effort to abide by the rules. A lot of other forums on the net are a total mess compared to this one, with a lot more work for mods.

I subscribe to every thread I post in, then check each for replies so I can stay on top of them. Then use new threads at the top to see what else is going on!

I do the same as semi-pro.

Have my subscriptions window on a bookmark too, so I can automatically open it with my browser and check threads I've posted in.

Regarding your MM suggestion, it is a nice idea, but it is simple enough as it is. The rules are outlined very clearly.

Not going to happen unfortunately. It's important that you make sure you read all the rules regularly and follow them. It's only by keeping strict rules that we keep the MM as scam free as it is.
