I called CPW today to ask about an upgrade, as my contract is coming to an end at the end of May. The woman on the phone said that my contract doesn't expire until September 2011, and I won't be eligible for an upgrade until July 2011.

Back in September 2009, I lost my phone and ended up getting a friend's old one and buying a replacement SIM from a CPW shop. At the time, the goon behind the counter said that he'd put it through " as an upgrade" as the SIM would only cost me £10 instead of £15. I asked whether it would affect when my contract ended and he said no... It seems he was wrong, as I now appear to be on a 24 month contract starting from that date!

I called CPW about this a couple of times a few months back, as I noticed the termination date shown on the online billing system was wrong. Each time they said they could see the problem as outlined above, and that they'd fixed it. Clearly they haven't.

I'm going to call customer services tomorrow and give them a piece of my mind, in as diplomatic a fashion as possible. Any suggestions on how to go about getting this sorted? I've half a mind to just ask for my PAC code and threaten to report them to Ofcom if they show any signs of dragging their heels or making things difficult for me...

The 'goon' is talking out of his ass. SIM cards from CPW for O2 are £10. No idea why he did that. Tell customer service you did not agree to any upgrade nor did you sign any agreement stating such.

Explain to them that you wish to resolve this matter now/today so you can upgrade to a new phone. Explin you have phoned about this before to be told it has been sorted.

Do not lose your temper it will get you know where with CPW, they will make notes on your account and you will then face a brick wall everytime you phone.

Keep a calm head, it's not their fault, it's the idiot in the store. If possible, go back to the store you got it from and phone them from there.

something similar happened to me with tmobile. i told them i had been mis-sold the contract and they fixed it there and then.

Sorted now. They put a note on my account and then the salesperson just had to call through to tech support themselves to verify it.

I've now upgraded... 400 minutes, 1000 texts, unlimited web and a Nokia e71 for £20 a month for 24 months.
