I noticed that there have been a lot of pre-overclocked i7 930s on the OcUK website for sale with this cooler as the HSF. Am I to presume that this HSF can do the business then and would it be worth getting one for my Q6600 that currently has a cooling issue?

Thanks

Bit-tech along with meanly other trusted site's have it down as THE best air cooler, not just in its price area, a lot depends how you apply the thermal grease with it been direct contact block.

i got this kit but with the H50 cooler the temps were alittle high at first but Reading to clean the thermal paste reapplied to the H50 and also to use a molex connection for the pump seems to have solved anyproblems i had over all the speed of this kit is retardly fast i don't think i would need to upgrade anything apart from my 3d card for a good 3 years :D

Man, I have had so many different heatsinks in my ocuk basket waiting to purchase over the past week. I can't make up my mind, and I keep getting put off my choice of the moment...

Noctua NF-D14 - seems to get the best results most of the time, but it's expensive and ridiculously massive.
Thermolab Baram - sometimes gets very good results, but sometimes gets rather mediocre ones. Some question-marks around its ease of installation.
Thermalright Ultra 120 - Still seems to perform really well, but doubts about it needing lapping, and its retention mechanism and lack of mounting pressure.
Aplenfohn Nordwand - gets some great reviews, but just not enough about it anywhere.
Tuniq Tower Extreme - sometimes comes out on top, but some places raise doubts about the ability of its HDT pipes to make good contact with the hottest areas of the IHS.
Titan Fenrir - some places have it as the best cooler, others merely as good value for the price but not the best overall. Seem to be some doubts about the smoothness of the base, and the noise of the stock fan. Also limited to a single fan.

I've had each one of these swapping in and out of my basket, and can't make up my mind. Feeling a bit frustrated with it all now. It seems so many of the review sites contradict one another...

Have these been revised?

I went from the original Tuniq Tower to a Fenrir, and got terrible temps no matter how many times I reseated and tried different thermal compound lay-out.

Switched to a new revision Tuniq Tower and it works wonderfully.

Think with the Fenrir having 4 heatpipes of 8mm you need the cpu to have quite a big heat spreader to make contact with all of them as its direct touch. It works best with an i7 or an am3 cpu.

IIRC on a website socket 775 cpus only make contact with the middle two heatpipes as the cpu is too small.

Ahhh. ^^^^^ That's right! That's what I was thinking of.

I read about that happening on skt775 with the Fenrir, not the Tuniq Tower as I said above. Was getting confused there. I've been reading far too many HSF reviews over the past week. They're obviously starting to merge together...

Anyway, I've just discovered there are new retention kits that make the Megahalems a universal HSF, so that's now going in my basket instead. Seems pretty unanimous that it is a really great heatsink.

Yeah the Megahalems is great. It runs really well at low fan speeds as well compared to a lot of other top end coolers it seems.

Is this the Megahalems you refer too? Would that suit my Q6600 better than the Fenrir due to the heatpipe issue on the Fenrir? Also with the Magahalems, would this be a good fan to go with it?

Thanks

Yup with those two that is probably one of the best combinations for air cooling though obviously if you don't mind spending that much :D

Heh well nothing comes for free :P

I was attracted to the price of the titan fenrir but if there is guna be issues with the cooling only really using 2 pipes, ill get the more expensive one....when I get money :P

Just ordered a Megahalems myself. Glad to have finally made a decision!

Went with the Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000. Should be able to set it to 6v at idle temps in Abit uGuru, and spin it up at higher voltages as temps rise.

Quite excited about pushing my overclock on now. Hope I'm not disappointed...

If you want a cheaper option the Scythe Mugen 2 performs only a few degrees worse than the top air coolers plus it already comes with a top notch fan. Ocuk don't sell it though.

Yeah, it does get some great results. I was a bit put off by reports of its size being a problem with MOSFET cooling and ramsinks, though. I already have a problem with a big dead-air pocket near my case exhaust and resultant toasty PWM temps. I'm looking to free up that part of my system a bit. The Megahalems looks to have much better clearance.

Also, with free OcUK delivery, the price difference is off-set a bit. Yay for free delivery! :)

I have just the thing for you:

Yeah, I saw that one :)

And then I saw about seven similar review charts that had almost all of those heatsinks in a different rank order...

I've seen the Venemous-X and Ultra way further down, for instance.

For example, in FrostyTech's charts, the Tuniq Tower is number one, the Baram is right behind it, the Megahalems almost level. In xbit's review, the Nordwand is just 2 degrees behind the NH-D14. And so on...

It was right doing my head in!

And, to be candid, now I've actually ordered a Megahalems, the last thing I need is to see again one of the charts that has it near the middle of the pack! ;)

Hehe, Yeah I can imagine that being very frustrating, especially given the costs. That's the annoying thing about CPU cooler reviews, everyone gets slightly different results. That's why we are trying to build up the number of coolers on the list.
