Titan Fenrir, Hot or Not?

Imo the top air coolers (DH-14, V-X and Megahalems) are probably within a few degrees of each other with a standard config such as using a single fan. Just pick the one you like :D

I think that the Megahalems does better though at low fan speeds such as below 800rpm because of the design.

Hehe, Yeah I can imagine that being very frustrating, especially given the costs. That's the annoying thing about CPU cooler reviews, everyone gets slightly different results. That's why we are trying to build up the number of coolers on the list.

What we need is a meta-analysis! :D

When you say "we," do you mean you're involved with Vortez.co.uk? I found that a useful site for a few reviews. One of the few places to review the Nordwand, for instance.

Given the inconsistency of review results, though, I'm surprised no-one's done some sort of meta-analysis yet. Shouldn't be too hard to do one based on delta load temps and one on rank order, for instance. Would be a really useful resource. Any chance? ;)

Yup, I do all the CPU cooler reviews :p. I've got quite a few more coming up but I'm waiting till my exams are over so stay tuned!

I see your volunteering yourself then :p.

I have a Q6600 with a Titan Fenrir and the temps are great, 25-28 deg max idle, 47-55 deg max under load.

3.4 ghz oc so i am really happy, for the price it's a great bit of kit.

Oh yeah onviously the chasis helps too, cm 690 dominator with 4 fans, so plenty of air to feed a wind farm in there!!!!

Right. I only remember seeing the weight without fans, which (IIRC) was about 900g. Which I guess means that the Matterhorn with a dual-fan set-up would then be 1.35kg? Doesn't sound that much more than the NF-D14 in that case, though it is still nudging upwards...

I feel sure I was seeing some motherboard flex with my 815g Zipang until I bought a new mounting mechanism for it.

I guess these HSFs are all well tested for tolerance of mountings, but pushing over 1.3kg of metal and plastic hanging off my CPU socket is getting to the level I start to feel a bit... squeamish about it :)

Am I right in saying that with fans, you cant go below room temp? Or did I just make that up? My room is usually high 20s and sometimes in the 30s and it obviously doesnt help.

ah ok, with that said then, I guess a good cooler for a hot room would just keep the load temp down rather then the idles. So for instance, I could be idling at something stupid like 40'c but not actually breach 55'c on load. Rather then idle at 30'c and breach 80'c on a load with a bad cooler?
