I have mine warming up, I'll do a colour test with default settings and then after calibration. Probably take an hour.

Ooh mines out for delivery, hopefully someone is in to open the door. I'm currently using a samsung 215tw which has been very good for the money so far, I also have an x-rite i1display2 to calibrate the two monitors beside each other so I'll try and report when it's all setup. Hopefully this is a newer & larger version of what the 215tw gave.

Now this I am interested in. I have the exact same monitor - 215TW - so would be interested in your comparison :)

Ah the x-rite software doesn't let you run tests on non-calibrated monitors like badass does with the lacie software (I'm using the same colour puck though). I've just done a new calibration on both monitors side by side and tried to get them to 6500k white point, 2.2 gamma and 120 luminance.

Default settings:
brightness 80
contrast 90

I had to use these setting to get the contrast brightnes and white point to the defaults
brightness 0
contrast 98
red 150/255
green 115/255
blue 131/255

Leaving the colour channels at default but putting brightness to 0 was still too bright, it was reading near 150 luminance :o Sometimes setting the colour channels so far from default can give issues with colour banding etc, I'll need to use it for a while to see how it goes and maybe recalibrate at the weekend.

After calibration I get these figures from the two screens
215TW - average dE 0.61, highest out dE was the blue channels with one hitting 2.0
ZR24W - average dE 0.66, highest out dE channel was red at one hitting 1.76, also some blue colours where over 1.3

Again the monitor hasn't really been used much so might settle down? and I'll try some other settings in a few days to try and get them both more accurate. Personally they are now both accurate enough for some hobby level photo editing (hey I don't sell anything).

I haven't tried any gaming yet, grabbing a window that straddles both screens and shacking up and down (rough test :) ) shows it to have less immediate lag than the 215 but then this was always the weakest area of the older screen.

So far a thumbs up considering the price.

A couple more notes, the screen is totally fine looking straight on but if you look at it from too great an angle it really starts to shift blue to dark blue, then it shifts black to a grey sheen. In normal use it wouldn't be any issue. I've got a slight red cast, after calibration the two screens don't match, the 215 seems more neutral so I'll try and set it up again to get rid of it.

I for one appreciate this. :)

Looking at passing my 215TW on to someone else and getting the ZR24 for myself.

Would you say its a worthy replacement for the 215TW?

I'll be keeping it as my main monitor, it's just slight issues that aren't really an issue in most common use but just reporting them.

so are these no good for a 3 monitor setup then for eyefinity ? do you not get this on all ips type displays as my friends dell does it to so i have been toled

I guess you'd angle the 3 monitors so as you turn your head they are fairly straight on to you? then it wouldn't be an issue, it only really kicks in when you're looking from an angle that'd be a bit unnatural when sitting normally.

thanks, I sit about 2ft away from the screen would there be any effect sitting this close I mean any of the corners starting to hvae that silver screen effect ?

Cheers

Took delivery of my monitor today. Have to say I am very happy so far, no dead pixels, tinting or bleed.

Have loaded up a couple of games and it seems to be fine, will need to have a bit of a session on it later to test it properly.

Have adjusted the settings to those which DanF posted above. They seem fine to my eyes and did seem to improve on the default settings.

Maybe it is time I invested in a calibrator of my own, not that I would greatly benefit from one but the fact I just like tinkering with things...

I was holding out for months for a new monitor and nothing really made me want to buy it, so was very happy when this monitor came out, and now, first impressions are that for £300 its a very good and excellent value for money.

Hi again,

I see from the pics that there are 2 USB ports on the left side. Where are the other two based? Are they any good for discreetly plugging in external drives? I don't fancy having wires hanging from half way down the monitor's edges.

EDIT: I can't find a hi-res picture of the back of this monitor anywhere. Could someone put one up please?

Will this do? :p

Facing off against my Dell 2407WFP - the HP's stand is rather more sturdy and a lot less wobbly!

Full set-up including my HZ30 :D

Overall seems a decent bit of kit -it seems well screwed together and priced nicely between the nasty TN monitors and the more full featured S-IPS models - if you just need a PC monitor without the bells and whistles then you don't need to look much further..

Mine's waiting at home for me! Can't wait to try it out later today. :D

g0th, I notice some Canon lenses and Eclipse fluid sitting on your shelves. Reckon this monitor is going to be good for photo editing? (As that's going to be its main use.) I was debating for quite a while between this and the U2410, but all the reports of tinting (as well as how that was handled from a customer support perspective) with the Dell units put me right off.

has anybody here tried both the ZR24W and the U2410, can you see any difference in image quality? eg. the Sparkly coating, tinting, colors.

ive got the zr24w and had the hp version of the u2410 (same panel)
the z has a lot less sparkly coating ,no tinting and the colours seem a lot better(haven't got that wide gamut radioactive glow) to my eyes its a lot better panel
i think there on to a winner with this one ,when funds allow i will buy a second one

Just stuck my order in for a pair of these to go with my 2408. Looking forward to getting them tomorrow and then some Eyefinity gaming over the weekend!
