See I actually found ep 3 to be quite useful to learn a bit more about the characters involved. Sure it didnt have masses of explosions and gun fire, but then I like a bit of character development in my entertainment as well as gun fire.

Its tough for them I guess, lots of lovely action and people complain that there is no character development. Lots of character development and people complain there are no explosions and body parts.

I liked ep 3 a lot more than many posts here had made me think I would.

i enjoyed it as well, they have taken some dramatic liberties with Leckies time in Australia which is covered in great detail in his book, they've pretty much compressed a number of Aussie stories / characters into one or two plot points. But the script and James Badge Dale has definately nailed Leckie's character and the battles.

Not sure why people are complaining about the Battles, they are pretty horiffic and shocking to me, i'd have thought the point of the wholesale slaughter on screen was to shock rather than excite ? If thats the way it was then i'd prefer them to show it that way rather the twist the truth.

Leckie spends a vast portion of the book describing the time in between the fighting, that was just how it was for them, it wasn't fighting the whole time!

If you read the books, I think maybe you will have more of an understanding of why the series is like it is.

I'm enjoying it so far. The double last week set it all up and the episode this week didnt let down. Good story and nice to get to know a few of the characters in the series.

What was the time scale in the last episode? How long was they in Australia for?

What I miss most from the series so far is the lack of real interviews at the start or moving figures/text at the end of the episode. Band of Brothers seemed to have more of an introduction to each episode with the guys themselves giving interviews telling you who they were. This one doesn't really have a great introduction for each episode and it never tells you who exactly the old guy is who is talking. I felt more drawn in hearing the actual people the characters were based on in band of brothers talking about their experience before each episode and welling up sometimes.

Also, at the end of band of brothers episodes they usually had a synopsis of what happend with figures like "500 people died taking Bastone but they held out for months, etc, etc". Pacific just finishes and goes to the credits (unless I'm missing something!).

And one last thing! Why do they have a "Previously in The Pacific" section? Again this wasn't in BoB but then again I only owned it on DVD and Bluray so maybe this is just for the on-screen showings.

actually in BOB they didnt reveal the names of the blokes at the start either, wasnt until the documentary 11th episode that i realised one of them was Winters.

I can tell you one of them is Sid Phillips, also seen in documentaries "The War" and "Hell in the Pacific"

I think what I miss most from BoB is the lack of showing the different echelons of command. In BoB we had everything from Privates right the way up to Colonel Cink. I liked seeing how the NCOs interacted with the lower-ranked soldiers and their superiors. It's all a little bit too grunt focused in The Pacific for me.

I noticed last night that they have started showing The Pacific from the beginning on Sky 3. So dont even need Sky Movies to watch it now...well...except that you've missed the first 2 episodes as they were on Sky 3 last night :)

i think it was under skys "Weekend Pass" promotion this weekend only, dont think they are showing the whole thing, just the 1st 2

I saw this. Seems pretty infuriating that they are just teasing us by only showing the first two eps.

On the plus side for those without sky movies, its at least a potential indication that they intend to show the whole series on Sky 3. Maybe once its finished its run on Sky Premiere.
