HP 'new' ZR24w

I had another fiddle last night, adjusted the red down a couple of clicks and the green up one which got rid of the red tint, it's now much closer to the 215 :) Then I played some just cause 2 and it was ace, really nice for gaming, vibrant colours, fast enough for that style of game. I'm not a fpser so can't really say how it would compare to a fast tn panel.

Any chance you could run a timer with milliseconds and clone the output to the ZR24W and 215TW and take a camera shot of it? to see the lag difference?

So far the reviews seem quite positive. goth mentioned that it is priced nicely between TN's and more full-featured IPS panels. Care to elaborate on that a bit?

I'm curious as to exactly what's missing or sub par with this monitor considering its suspiciously low price. I know it has no HDMI port and no ability to scale 1:1 from 720p/1080p sources....but I don't think either of these would be an issue for me. Would these two factors account for such a price difference compared to other IPS panels?

Stuff like:
Wide colour gamut (can be a mixed blessing).
Component/S-video inputs.
Built in card reader.
Possibly more stylish design :)

With respect to input lag it seems pretty good - using the slidey window test it impossible for me to detect any difference between the HP and my HZ30 whilst my 2407 clearly lags behind the HZ30. The HZ30 has low lag by IPS standards mostly due to it not having a scaler.

Component/S-video inputs.

Thats my problem :(

Im still looking at getting the monitor despite that. Anyone know much about Scart to VGA/ Composite to VGA?

Email in trust if necessary :)

Edit - I guess another option i have is a scart to HDMI up-scaler and use a HDMI to DisplayPort adapter
Thinking about it, the better option would probably be Scart to HDMI with a HDMI to DisplayPort to get what I need.

Just got mine set up. Well, I've been fiddling about on it for about an hour. The settings are straight out of the box -- I haven't felt the need to adjust anything!

There are no hot/dead pixels (as far as I can see). Colour uniformity is good.

The one thing I can notice is that there's a bit of light falloff towards the edges, the last couple of centimetres each side. It's not major, but it's noticeable.

I'm using an HD 5770 with Catalyst 10.3 drivers. Monitor drivers are v1.0.0.0. I'm thinking of getting a Spyder calibration device now...

I used a flash exe timer so it's not going to be very accurate but a series of 9 photos showed either 30 or 40 ms difference in speed, the ZR was always faster.

Just to clarify i have this right (probably not) with 1:1 mapping if i tried to play an old game at say 1024x768 on a 1920x1200 i would get that exact size with massive black borders, but without the 1:1 mapping the image would automatically be stretched to fit the whole screen and look bad.

with aspect scaling on this monitor it would stretch the image as vertically as possible then whack the black borders on?
Could i turn all this monitor scaling off and do it with the catalyst/nivida control panel?

How soon Badass? i would like to read at least one professional review before i buy the monitor

well i will have it with me Wed, so will get it written up asap after that. i'd hope by a week on Wed i will have it completed :)

Just like to say that my 3 monitors has arrived today.
looked @ all no dead pixels adjusted contrast and brightness down and i think there even better than my dell 2209wa ips monitors. the colours look much better. but bloody hell there very big when using 3 in eyefinity. glad i did not get the 27 inch dell they wouldnt fit on my desk. will get some pics done soon ;)

Got my pair today, but I won't be able to do much with them until tomorrow. Need to redesign the computer room so I can get the two HPs and the 2408 onto the desk, and also fit my 5870.

Dazboots: Looking forward to seeing your setup :)
