Hi, just built my new system. Ive pulled my i5 750 to 3.6GHz, and my 1600mhz Ripjaw ram is running at 1800mhz as a result. Voltages are set to 1.4, and ram is at 1.6. PCI at 102.

Any tips on how i can get it to 3.8 or even 4Ghz.

Specs are as follows

i5 750
Corsair H50 water cooler thing
8GB Ripjaw ddr3 dual 1600mhz
asus 5870
corsair 750 HX psu

You could try the following:

QPI Clock Ratio [x36]
PCI Express Freq - 100MHz
CPU Cores - All
CPU Muiti-threading - Enabled (although if I remember correctly this enabled Hyperthreading Tech, so as the 750 doesn't have it, you could disable it)...Disable everything else in Advanced Core Features
CPU Thermal Monitor - Enabled, you can disable other CPU features
Base Clock (BCLK) -Enabled
BCLK Freq - 190 (this will give 4.0GHz)
Extreme Memory Profile [Disabled]
System memory Multi (SPD) [8.0] (you might get away with the next higher setting, but use the setting that runs you ram @1600 or just below)
Dram Timings Selectable (SPD) [Expert]
Set Channel A & B Timings manually for your ram, mine is 7-7-7-24
Load-Line Cal (Auto)
CPU Vcore - leave @ 1.40v, run Prime95 and find out what lower voltage you can run your CPU stably at, probably 1.30-1.325v to run 4.0GHz...
Dram Voltage - 1.6v (you probably should increase to 1.64v as you have 8GB, ie., all four slots filled).
QPI/VTT Voltahe 1.34v
Advanced Voltage Settings - everything else on Auto...

When you key these in simply Save & Exit etc...then run Prime 95, check voltages/temps with CPU-Z/CoreTemp...

my qpi is at 32 right now, and those settings you have given me are quite different, i got mine from a foprum somewhere but i cant seem to find it now. Ill try those settings and see how it goes. Cheers.

Those settings dont work. In fact, ive reverted to my previous settings and those dont work not either.

The above settings are almost exactly what I use to run an 860 @ 4.1GHz on a Gigabyte P55 UD5...

You may need to increase your Ram voltage to 1.64v as you have 8GB, ie. all four slots populated...

I think ive made a mistake getting this UD5

Nothing wrong with the motherboard...you need a bit of patience and persistence to get a good stable o/c, it just doesn't happen instantly...

Drop the "QPI Clock Ratio" to [32]

Yer im back to what i was now, running at 3.6Ghz. Ram at 1800. Its seems stable but something thats happened twice now, in BFBC2 the PC froze when a level ended. Its just done it again in MW2 at the end of a multiplayer match.

Took me about 4 months to settle my Q6600 into a stable 3.19GHz. Im in no rush lol. Bit frustrating when it wont boot.

Bear in mind that the the i5/i7 is a different animal to the C2 when it comes to overclocking, so it takes a while to get stability (especially if you're not using a high end WC setup).

Try enabling load line calibration (level 1 is plenty) and bump CPU PLL up a couple of notches. That'll iron out most stability problems.

What are your memory timings? Mine don't like going over 1700 @ C7. Might want to put our memory voltage up to 1.66, as you're using all 4 slots (not something I'd usually recommend for overclocking).

That said, a 750 @ 3.6 is still going to fly!

9-9-9-24. yer my pc handles everything without effort, just might as well have the extra grunt if its there.. there seems to be a few problems with freezing ingame now and again but im not entirely sure what i can put that down to.

e/. Prime 95 wont run for longer than 1 minute on cores 1 and 2.

Whats load line calibration?

I changed the SPD to 8 now so my memory runs at 1600 MHz. My Cpu is at 4Ghz now. Ram voltages upo to 1.66 as you said. Ive not tested it yet mind so im not holding my breath. QPI is at 32. PCIE Freq. Down to 100 now. Cpu voltage still at 1.4v.

11mins stable .... lol

Hi,

Sorry as I don't mean to hi-jack someone else's thread but seemed a little pointless starting a new one when I have the same board and CPU.

Its been a while since I did some overclocking and thought that things should not have changed that much... right..

Is there anything that I can look at without going way deep into the theory of overclocking

Just looking at some setting to get to about 3.8GHz if I can and I would be happy. I have it at 3GHz by changing the BCLK Freq - 150

Memory is Corsair XMS3 4GB

Cheers for any pointers and advice

6 hours prime stable. im happy with that.

@johnrs

If you like i can take pics of my bios and you can follow the same settings. Currently have mine at 4Ghz.

Main issues i keep getting are Display driver problems, keeps crashing and ive had 1 BSOD so far, they are updated from ATI's site. FYI, im running a single 5870. Im going to change the cooling in my case as i have a 120mm fan at the top of my case, which blows air outwards from when i was running my tuinq tower, it was a push pull setup but i dont think its doing any good as it is no im running the H50.

Im also beginning to wonder if there is any point in having my CPU at 4.2GHz. Im tempted to clock it back to 3.8, and have the ram running a little higher again, like at 1800MHz.

Any ideas?

Are there known issues with the 5870, or do you think it could be overheating due to poor ventilation. OR could it be my unstable overclock. I honestly thought that everything ran better in game when i was at 3.8/1800mhz.

I'm also having problems with USB devices being recognised. Keyboard and Ipod or external hard drives not being recognised kinda thing i have to disconnect them a few times to get them working sometimes. I could really use some advice. Still getting display driver issues.
