"Injunction" on my car :(

Investigate, yes. Punish? I don't think so... :(

When their investigation did not produce the result they were after then I don't see how they had the right to mark my car.

They marked your car as you let your passengers smoke weed within your car. Passive smoking of weed will effect you, therefore you were intoxicated and driving a vehicle.

You are not being punished, you're being kept an eye on.

OK I didn't mean for this to turn into a debate about weed, I was just after some advice about the tag on my car so thanks for the replies guys, the helpful ones anyway :)

Which is why they target people with alcohol in the car too

You missed what is being discussed.
Someone said that weed smokers are more likely to commit other crimes, which is not true but is not exclusive to weed either (hence the alcohol and chavs comment)

The study suggests that cannabis use in adolescence and early adulthood may be associated with subsequent involvement in criminal activity. However, the bulk of this involvement seems to be related to various types of drug-specific crime. Thus, the association seems to rest on the fact that use, possession and distribution of drugs such as cannabis is illegal. The study strengthens concerns about the laws relating to the use, possession and distribution of cannabis.

Interesting, I thought it would show a clear link

so your car will have a "drugs associated" anpr tag on it so expect to get pulled

. . . and searched every time. So allow extra time if your going for an appointment anywhere. If you give your "friends" a lift again you best make sure none are in possession or you will make things much worse if pulled.

Dont let the police give reason to pull you for anything else.

I had something like this around my town when i was 18ish, police would list the suspect cars, ie speeders or people who were suspect on drugs etc.

The copper is doing his job but you got one over them as they obviously wanted to nick you. Play careful now as they will try pull and get you for something else or at least did with my mates.

Oh and you know your friends, if you think its ok for them to smoke weed in your car then so be it your the boss.

Just play safe from now on,

I think that a few of the uptight high horse brigade could do with a smoke themselves, illegal it may have been but it's hardly like he's been letting his friends rape old women on the back seats. I sympathise with you NVP, it just seems like you were in the wrong place at the wrong time and you took a risk and got caught. Probably just should avoid having any substances in the car for a while.

It won't be a section 59, it will be a crimint report which can be linked to the ANPR system.

I have no sympathy for you, don't let ur friends smoke in your car. SIMPLES.

He never said "some" weed smokers, just weed smoker; I understood that to be referring to them in general, not just some. I will agree that there are definitely some that are more likely to, but at the same time there are some who are not. I just don't see it as fair to lump everyone who's ever smoked a bit of weed in their life in the same boat as hardened criminals who may also smoke weed.

I think you've missed the point. Clearly not everyone who smokes weed will commit other crimes, just that statistically they're more likely to than someone who hasn't.

As for the op I certainly wouldn't let anyone smoke (weed or anything else) in my car as it makes the car smell. I'd also not want to passively smoke weed whilst i was driving as it'd effect my reactions.

Well it's illegal, so no matter what spin you put on it, if you are braking the law or perceived to associate with those who break the law, then expect to have the old bill on your case.

Your car, your friends, your responsibility - end of story

Do you really think the police should just take your word for it when you told them it was only your friends smoking? Because the sort of person who cruises around with friends drinking and smoking weed in their car is generally an honerable, trustworthy type, right

And all the nonsense about not being more likely to commit a crime, I bet you're the same people who cry about insurance, "OMG I'm 18 but a good driver, why is it so expensive!!"....statistics....simple.

The police were right in their actions, your car will have been flagged as being associated with drug users, which it is - so I really dont see the problem.

The attitude to the law and the police by some people in here really makes me worried about young people today

You'd have to be sat next to someone who's smoking for days before you started to feel an effect :p

You'd be surprissed if you're not a smoker and sit in a confined space (like a car) with someone having a spliff you can feel a slight effect fairly soon. It's not the same as smoking it yourself but the effect is there.

My thoughts on all of this are somewhat clouded by my views on recreational drug use. I think it's quite telling that the person most likely to be the next leader of the country wouldn't deny that he had smoked marijuana, and I suspect many of our elected leaders and many members of the police force itself have had a puff or two!

I certainly have some sympathy for NVP. I'd be quite annoyed if I were destined to be pulled over regularly because a friend smoked some weed. In this case I don't think it's the fault of the police, but of poor and dubious legislation with little scientific basis (Well I never!).

Depends how much of a tolerance you have to it though I suppose.

He's not destined to be pulled over regularly because a friend smoked weed, he's destined to be regularly pulled over because he chose to let a friend smoke weed in his car..... there's a subtle, but significant difference

Certainly. As someone who doesn't smoke but has tried it in the past I can feel the effect from inhaling it passively. I'd bet a regular user wouldn't notice it at all though.
