Odeon Silverlink, North Shields

Pretty much live in the cinema (work in Blockbuster, so a love for films kinda comes natural) so a lot of the staff know me and my friends pretty well, which probably helps. Ive had numerous members of staff say to my face "Dont bother hiding food in your pockets, we dont care anyways so just carry it in and save yourself the hassle"

Like I say with 3d films, you pay the normal entrance fee + a surcharge for it being 3d, all they do is knock the cost of the film off and charge 1 normal ticket + 2 lots of 3d surcharges. Been doing it since Coraline came out.

Like any industry, the costs of modernising to the latest tools of the trade are not cheap and eventually these costs must be passed along the chain but not many industries have the cheek to openly stick their hands out and demand it immediately.

That's because you're paying the extra for them to supply you the 3d glasses, quite a number of cinemas do not charge you extra if you bring your own glasses in

At least I think they did this at the last 3d film I saw there on a Wednesday.

Agreed. Signed up to this over a year ago and if you see 2 films a month its worth it - and your not restricted to the too busy Wednesday night crush.

I can enjoy most films at the cinema - if I was at home I would get bored and do something else.

In which case my mistake. Does puzzle me however, like I said two different chains (Odeon and Cineworld), different parts of the country, different films, plus I used my NUS discount/asked for a student price. The only difference was that compared to a normal ticket, it cost a few pounds more as you would expect.

Ah well, I'm not going to complain!
Come summer time though, I'm getting a Cineworld card, making the most of that bargain!

3) 7 people watching including friends in comfort = free
4) Car parking = free
5) Annoyances = none

TOTAL = "free" or whatever you want to call the cost of the film and/or food.
EXPERIENCE = Nice

I keep leaving cinemas feeling like I've been robbed! Anyone else?

Urm, where did the 46" screen with 5.1 True HD and BluRay player come from? Say your set up cost £2,000, will last 5 years and you watch an average of 1 film a week. That works out at £2000 / (5 x 52) = £8 for the equipment, plus £12 for the disc, plus another tenner for food/drink and you're looking at £30 for a film at home.

total fallacy., he would have that set up regardless.

It's like people saying but bus is cheaper once you take into account insurance/mot etc on a card. Despite the fact you would have a car anyway for things a bus can't do.
 
I tend to frequent cinemas from 10pm onwards on school nights. Drastically cut down your chances of getting stuck with annoying unruly brats or any chavs that may have scraped together money to fund a new stomping ground.
 
I have a problem with the cinema, the frame rate seems very slow, if the camera doesnt move around its fine, like a long shot, but if its close ups and turning around quickly i feel like im watching a slideslow.
 
Got 32" HDREADY TV, joined a online dvd rental = 2dvd's unlimited £13, never been to the cinema since. I know you have to wait for the latest film's to be released on dvd, but the benefits far out it way it..
 
I like the cinema the surround sound and everything. Our local cinema does a card for £10 a year and every performance is £4 for adult and £3 for children licenced screens as well for a few beers. But i tend to go when the film has been out for a week or two. Always end up with a tall person infront of me else.
 
usually go once a month to a small cinema in bham. called the electric and get a seat on the couch. ok, its £12, but you can order your drinks (incl. alcohol) via sms from the couch and the bring them to you. :-) Usually it is quiet in there. no loud youths. they dont always show the latest films and only got two screens, but its nice and comfy in there.

Our local Cineworld still will knock £1 off if you bring your own glasses, you still have to pay the extra though (which is around £1).

That's becuase it runs at 24fps, which is really too slow in the 21st century, so cameras have to pan slowly or you get horrible suttering effects. With motion estimation on modern tv's/ffdshow you don't get that at home.

I rarely go nowadays, I would go more but my wife isn't into films as much as I am so the cost to go when she won't really enjoy it means I just wait and watch at home.

However the odd time I do go (last few times on my own lol) I enjoy it.

When I went the other day I was actually really surprised at the picture. Think they've just had some new projectors installed as the clarity was excellent. Usually it's a bit grainy/scratchy on the screen (like an old film projector) but now it looks great.

Got the day off tomorrow so might go see something :)

Wish the cinemas here did monthly memberships :(

I think your figures are skewed slightly.

46" screen = not free
Bluray capable player = not free
5.1 surround = not free
7 ppl round eating/drinking and using your toilet = not free

This was your mistake. Don't go on Wednesdays. Better to spend a tenner more and enjoy than throw away 40 quid because it's packed with students/idiots/etc :p
