£400-500 for upgrades, wanting advice

Looking around can anyone recommend me any fairly x8 x8 crossfire capable mobo's for i5 or 955

or does 16 x 4 not make much difference?

I'd get a x8x8, the diffence between x8x8 and x16x4 is significant enough, though x16x16 isn't important. If you're going to overclock an i5 you'll need a decent cpu cooler if you havn't already got one, which'll dig into your budget a little.

An alternative route would be sell your current mobo/processor/ram to help fund the upgrade. Then buy an AMD 555 processor (with a suitable cooler), Asus M4A79XTD mobo, Patriot Sector 5 G series 4gb PC3-12800 memory. Try unlocking the 555, then OC'ing it to hell.

This'd only cost ~£300, which will leave you some room to buy that second 4850, as well as a new moniter. Or you could sell your current 4850 and buy a newer gpu instead. As CAT-THE-FIFTH said, it's worth waiting for the AMD x6 cores to come out, perhaps you'll find a second hand 555 off someone ! Hope this helped a little

Slightly over but what the heck.

The CPU is now £170! and with the cheaper UD3 motherboard, you will have change left over.
