Just about to buy one of these as they seem quite capable has anyone had any longer term issues? I've seen the issue with PSU's but that looks like a replacement fixes it.

Is it possible to run RAID on the SATA 6Gb ports?

Is there any reason to by the UD5 version?

Cheers.

Andi.

Edit: what is the difference between the UD3, UD 5 and UD7 other than price?

Yes it is possible to run raid and it is extremely good with the 6gb/s 4x the speed in fact.

I have the UD7 and if you simply check the specs you can see some slight tweaks here and there some better results in benchmarks and just generally slightly stronger overall but small tweaks nothing major the difference for me was the Northbridge and also the more stable clocking that i would expect from the higher end board.

I've had one for a few weeks now, great board really, especially for the money. Bios is straight forward, overclocking was a breeze. Main difference is power delivery, this board has 8 phase, UD5 and 7 have more 10 or 12 I think which would be more stable. So you might not be able to hit huge numbers past 4GHz, at least it will become more difficult. Cooling is also improved on higher end boards, you get what you pay for really. and yeah Raid is good. Even without it Sata3 gives a little boost to sata2 drives.

The UD3R is a great board. As far as I can see, the main difference betweein the UD3R and its bigger brothers are that the UD5 and 7 have more robust power systems, better cooling of the chipset components and more ports (dual Gigabit Ethernet, more SATA ports etc.). So the UD3R board is hardly crippled - it just makes the other boards worthwile if you want to do heavy overclocking and water cooling and/or want even more connections.

What are the issues with PSUs that you have seen?

As for running RAID on the 6Gbps ports - you can, but I wouldn't. This test compares the Marvel 9128 (the chip used on the UD3R for 6G SATA and can do RAID) and the ICH10R which is the southbridge of the X58. As you can see, for single drives the Marvel is great - but for RAID it stinks compared to the ICH10R.

I have this board and the only problem I have with it is that it has some LEDs on the board to display cpu voltage and cpu temp, these LEDs are next to one another.

The CPU voltage LED turns green when the volts are moderate.

The CPU temp LED turns green when the temp is above 60oC.

Problem I have is that the CPU voltage LED is Green because my board is overclocked.
But because of this I cannot tell if the CPU temp LED is lit up!!! I don't think it is becuase coretemp and hwmonitor says the idle temps are 38-44.

But, it's still a slight design flaw in my opinion.

I know, this isn't really a big issue, but it's the only thing I have to moan about this board so thought I would share. :)
