hey guys wondering if you could help me with choosing my new phone due for an upgrade in 4days time would like some help on which phone to choose.

Any help/advice would be really appreciated.

My thoughts are i would wanna go for the hd2 for the bigger screen but been hearing that the os is poor. On the other hand i would also wanna go for the desire runs a better os has a better screen Vivid colours has more apps? etc so im really cut between them :(

Go play with one of each in the shop and see if the screen size really effects you.

Personally the desire for the reasons you stated, but if you change you mind when it arrives you can send it back and get the hd2 instead?

Personally I think the Desire is the better phone and you've already listed most of the reasons. It's also got a faster processor and more memory.

No it hasn't.

He is 'kinda' right on the memory front. The HD2 OFFICIALLY only has 448Mb RAM whereas the Desire has 576Mb.

That said, with ROM & Radio updates 576Mb can be 'unlocked' on the HD2 as the hardware is actually in the phone but it is limited to 448Mb by the official HTC software for some bizarre reason!

Personally i'd go with the desire for Android alone, windows mobile 6.5 is good if you like to hack around but give it a year and it won't have half the apps that Android will.

I went through the same decision and in the end it came down to this...the hardware is pretty much the same, but do you want an OS that's on it's way up and will only improve over the lifetime of your contract, or an OS that's going to be replaced in 6 months and left to the hacker community for support and new features.

Some people may go for the latter, however i think most will go for Android.

I'd go with the Desire, Android is great. Perhaps if the HD2 was getting Windows 7 Mobile it'd be a more promising option, but unfortunately with it being stuck on 6.5, it just won't match.

Desire by a mile...i cringe when i see anyone with a Winmo phone...in fact i dont really know anyone who has one now other than my dad and even hes getting pretty narked off with Winmo....hes now contemplating a Desire as hes seen mine and thinks its absolutely brilliant.

I haven't used the HD2 but no one who owns one I know is raving about it. I am however totally loving my Desire - it's so fast.

Whilst I would currently side with the Desire, you make out like the HD2 is a bad phone. It was released 6 months ago, and at the time was better than anything out there. It is still a very good phone and I, 5 of my mates, and 2 work colleagues are all very happy with ours.

I didnt say the HD2 is a bad phone...it has some very hardware but what i said and you didnt bother paying attention to, was the fact that its the OS it runs on which i dont rate at all...even after hacking around with it ie putting new ROMS on various Winmo devices ive had...its still a pile of steaming dog crap.

But phone wise ie hardware the HD2 is very nice.

I disagree heavily with you on this point, but horses for courses.

Whilst the OS did struggle on the 5 previous WinMo handsets I've had, the HD2 is in another league from all of them, with stock roms being perfectly liveable, and cooked ones actually being VERY good. Certainly shows Symbian up as the ageing POS it really is.

Well thats fine agree to disagree because as far as im concerned Winmo is about as bad as it gets when it comes to mobile OS's...hate to say it but i would rather use Symbian than Winmo lol.

I actually have both. The desire has a much better experience attached to it. The andriod os is just a smoother ride.

The HD2 is a cracking phone, but os 6.5 is just lackbuster compared. FYI - HD2 will not be getting the Win Mob 7, Microsoft confirmed this, as no phone on the current market has the specifications needed. Look it up.

The Desire is cheaper.

If you want wow factor for looks and showing it off. Go for the HD2.
If you want something that will keep you busy for months and tick all the boxes from the get go - go Desire.

The HD2 WILL get WM7 when it's released, just not through Microsoft/HTC. The guys over at XDA-Developers will see to it. And the only part of the spec that the HD2 doesn't meet for WM7 is the number of hardware buttons which is limited to 3 for WM7.

That's the thing though, if you're happy and enjoy hacking around with your phone then it's probably a good choice, but not many people want to root their phone whenever they get bored.

I'm 100% sure it will get Wimo7 but by the time it's released Android will be streets ahead. At the moment developers want to make content for the iphone as it's got the user base which makes them money, Android is catching up fast so more developers will make apps for it. Wimo7 in comparison will take a couple of years to really get to that stage, by which time the OP will be hunting for a brand new phone.

With mobiles you can only go for the positives over your contract lifetime, get a Desire for 18 months and by then Wimo7 will be more established and he could get one then, but for the foreseeable future Android beats it hands down.
