I tired of buying naff spanners and socket sets that just fall apart under any sort of pressure.

Can someone advise me where i can buy some quality kit from? I dont really want ubber expensive stuff but somthing thats going to last!

Halfords professional sets -
end thread!

Pretty much. Although if you want 6-sided I'm not sure how much of Halfords stuff is, certainly in my set it's 12 sided, only the impact sockets are 6 sided.

Brilliant kit though. The set I have was more than enough to dismantle a car. :D

Right this is going to make me sound like a proper gippo, but I have a set of Aldi tools along with my Halfords pro stuff, and they have served me well!

But yeah, halfords are decent for us non hardcore mechanics, the £99 set is good value for money.

Sealey Pro socket sets in the metal tins have the edge over Halfords Pro in my opinion. Nicer ratchet and slimmer. Halfords Pro spanners, Wiha allen keys, Knipex pliers, Britool make nice drivers, Bahco adjustable wrenches. Clarke Pro or Halfords Pro tool cabs work out at exceptional value compared to Snap On. Power tools are Makita Li-Ion all the way for me, even my angle grinder.

Google Teng tools for a local supplier. Supa price is the way forward, 2nd link in Google search but I only had a quick look so check around yourself.

Britool, Facom, Beta

Same quality as snap-on and mac but without the crazy costs..

have a look on tooled-up.com

they do have 6 sided pro sets at halfords too

best bet is just go in and take a look :)

I just borrow things from my brother

Britool, Facom, Beta

I'd remove Britool from that list if i were you...the Mac Tools van that comes to us now has Britool/Facom/Stanley/etc (all owned by Stanley) and he had a set of Britool spanners on offer and on display, they looked sooo cheap, nothing like tha Britool stuff i have from 15+ years ago.
:)

Depends what you mean by quality. The Halfords Pro ones are good for the money but I wouldn't want to rely on them to make a living.

Have a look at this site for some decent quality tools.

Snap on stuff is overkill even professionally. I'd only buy their spanners in the small sizes because I've never broken or ever seen a 3/4 inch spanner get bent of broken. I have thousands of pounds of worth of snap on spanners and on reflection I was a young mug.

The same is true for sockets, I now normally buy Kennedy or Britool for work and I've never split one yet, despite having to use a scaffold pole on a ratchet handle to break the nuts on Airbus Brake Unit attachment bolts when they are seized. The square drive usually shears before the socket splits.

When I can I buy my stuff from the states because their tools are far better for the price.

I too use the Halfords Pro range, i've used them for years and never broken any of the tools. Obviously im sure Snap On are "better" etc....but then agian we don't all have £50 to spend on each spanner eh? :D

Keep an eye out for the offers, the last Snap On spanners i bought were a set of the long 'knuckle savers' from 10 to 19mm, list price about £300, i paid £120 iirc.
