I currently have a macbook pro, which I bought because I needed a laptop for home and at work.. I've now got a desktop at the office so dont really need the macbook anymore..

I was thinking of getting a 27" imac. Are these due a refresh anytime soon, or should I just bite the bullet and buy one now?

Thanks

these have just been release so no refresh, tbh the 27inch is fantastic value if i didnt have a 24inch 2009 i would get one in a flash :D so go ahead and bite the bullet

Is it worth upgrading to the ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB??

I play games like dawn of war, dawn of war 2 and probably Star Craft 2 when its realeased.

Ordered!! =D

Got 27" dual core with graphics card upgrade, numeric keyboard and Applecare

Havent got to play with it yet as I started migrating my files over before I had to leave for work..

First impressions though are...... WOW!! The screen is huge and so clear and dare I say, slightly overwhelming compared with my macbook pro. Cant wait to watch some films on it.

Will do a little write up when I get home tonight.

nice!

what made you go for the wired keyboard? the wireless is a lot slicker!

I had a play with a friends wireless keyboard and I agree it is very slick and having the wire of the numeric one showing does kinda spoil the minimalist look of it all...

However, I hated the return key on the wireless one.. I'm sure I would have got used to it, but I know it would have drove me crazy for a good few weeks before I did. :p

yup welcome to the club :p now sell that keyboard and get a wireless one :D nice setup post it in the hardware bit as well for others to see

Well after playing with it for a few hours now, I have to say I absolutely love this machine!!

Was worried that I might miss the portability of macbook pro, but I seriously doubt that will happen any time soon. Plus I have plans to get a iPad once they're released over here.

The screen is amazing, HD films look so good. Surfing the web is so much nicer, you can 3 or 4 windows open at once without any pages seeming squashed. I had to turn the brightness down by half, because it began hurting my eyes after a while.

Haven't had a chance to do any gaming yet. Will install XP later and have a go of DOW2 and see how that looks.

My biggest surprise is how much I like the magic mouse.. I honestly thought I would hate it! I very nearly bought the logitech V470 before this even arrived, because I thought I just wouldn't get on with it. I know people have complained about it being to small and not very ergonomic. I have quite small hands, so it's almost perfect for me.

So overall to say I'm really happy with it would be an understatement. It's definitely impressive, everyone that has seen it so far has either said "wow!!' or "****ing Hell!!!!" LOL.

Will let you know how I get on with the gaming later.

You'll probably want to plug in a different mouse on the occasions that you game. As nice as the magic mouse is, it's useless for gaming.
