...cooly named!

Unfortunately a side-effect of the start of Summer is seeing more & more of these mobile chicanes on the roads. But man do they have cool names!

Compass Rallye GTE
Compass Drifter 4
Abbey Maverick
Eldis Autoquest
Eldis Crusader
Sterling Eccles Diamond
Crystal Sprint

Why don't more cars have mad names like carvans!?!
Feel free to add your own or even make some up! :)

The Porta Loony XL - like a home from home, only with more plastic.

I think I just had a brilliant idea ...caravan drifting! ...it will end up being like cross between banger racing and drifting I'm sure but entertaining no doubt.

Came across a car towing a caravan earlier this week. left most traffic for dead leaving the lights, did help that it was a Range Rover 4.x towing a fairly light van.
Not what i'd call a mobile chicane at all.

Here's where i get abused for being a caravan owner, but when you have
kids and dont fancy spending a weekend in the rain in a tent a caravan is a godsend. electric flush loo, hot water heater built in, tv point. nice to be able to relax.
When i am towing, i'll move over when possible to let people past.

Now here's my annoyance, people who tow vans that are too heavy for the car. The recommend max weight of a caravan shouldn't exceed 85% of the kerb weight of the car towing.

I tend to prefer those static holidaying destinations that were invented quite a while back now... They are called hotels, and oddly enough are in every destination you want to go, and I don't have to drag it round the country.

but you don't get to empty your own toilet

Fine, if you would care to pay for say, 6 long weekends away as well as 3 weeks away for 2 adults and 2 children, then i'd be more than happy to stay in a hotel ;)

Oh, and nope, cant say i can find a hotel in most places i want to go. Was in Delamere forest last weekend, no hotel there or near by. Right next to the campsite was forest with lots of mountain bike trails. Nice and quiet, listening to woodpeckers in the forest and owls hooting in the night. Also sites tend to be self regulating regards noise at night, if you end up in hotel thats got a do on, you could be listening to the birdie song till all hours of the morning.

And with the campsite being in the affluent part of cheshire, watching an F430 scud fill up at the shell garage

Maybe its me not seeing the hidden meaning in your post, dunno.
Oh and im not sticking up for all caravaners, some drive like real numptys, usually the ones in their twilight years.

Of course caravans only cost a few quid...

True, just been having a browse at some AirStream vans(the big aloominum american ones), found one for £65,000!!! Twice what my first house cost plus you then need a "Big tow car".
So a family of 4, tied to school holidays, about £2-3K for 2 weeks abroad(may be out for a factor of X either way, since havent done a foriegn holiday for a while), plus say another week at £1k, plus most bank holidays, lets say £5k all in for a year just to err on the side of caution(this figure may go up or down, depends who wins on May 6th ;) )
Buy a 2nd hand van for £5k, done your all good for many a years holidays.

At which point i bow out of this cos i feel like crap due to a mind numbing amount of pain and go and watch the top gear repeats on Dave of them destroying caravans cos it does make me laugh which helps.
