This car has been on AT for almost 2 months and still not snapped up, to me it has the spec* and seems in good condition - God if I had the money I would definitely go have a look - it is the object of my desires *longing gaze*

What do you reckon? perhaps it's a lemon after a test drive?

*xenons, touring, electric seats, sport, facelift

Makes me realise what poor value the 3 is, as that particular example isnt even overpriced at £7k.

I paid only a smidgen more for my 530i.

When it was still in BMW warranty..

ah but yours had like 140K when you bought it did it not plus the E39 is an older design than the E46,

This one has 102k on it, its hardly a 30k miler is it!

The E39 is the same generation as the E46, the 3 is just usually 2 years behind the 5 in being introduced thats all.

Well done for knowing the exact mileage of my car when I bought it years ago right down to the nearest 100 miles (It was 139700 or something) despite only being registered here for 3 months though, impressive stuff ;)

That's some serious lurking :D

Its not necessarily just mileage the 3 has allways been the prominent model, most would contend like for like they are nicer to look at (albiet slightly) like for like Sport, M spec etc, smaller car, people percieve the lower running costs too, for a good E39 Sport with a couple of chioce mods like ACS wheels with the OEM nav and you'll pay these kinds of prices.

i think he bought it from a corporate and got a bargain too, the kinda guy who wouldn't mind losing 20K in 3 years on depreciation.

I bought it from a private seller - though he was an executive in a large company.

I am well versed as to the exact reasons behind the values of virtually every used BMW around - I simply musing how poor value the 3 can often be, thats all :)

It is particularly frustrating that despite spending over twice what I did on my 530i, I'd only manage to get a 3 Series thats 12-18 months newer than mine was at the time..

My pretty well specced (hifi, heated seats etc) 2003 3 series M sport touring was only 5k a year ago from a BMW employee. Surely this one is overpriced.

You got a good price.

+1

Funny a while back I posted a link to a 330i for 5k and got slated that it must be dodgy for that price and then now this one is too much for 7k - I is confused

I thought if you want a tidy examply then 7k is about right?

I test drove that car about 6 weeks ago. It was ok. There was a little bit of rust on the arches, but the main problem for me was the service history. It was patchy at best, the mileages didn't look right (most recent service was at lower mileage than the one before it).

The spec is good and the bodywork issues looked superficial, but it just didn't seem quite right to me.

If you want to ask anything else I'll do my best to remember.
