Ati 5 series ... are all the crashing problems resolved ?

Just a side note - Everyone in this thread who has a working 5xxx series card, has either an Intel i5/7 series CPU, or a Q6600.

(from people's sigs)

I wonder if the 5xxx series was tested on i7's etc, and not tested much on C2D rigs, as they dont seem to be happy when paired with anything on dual core??
I DONT

True, but its still a quad core not a C2D.

It's only an observation, was hoping to find other people with dual core systems that could confirm 5xxx series cards worked OK. Doesn't seem to be many about, and the ATi cards now seems shoddily built with bad drivers that dont work on all cards.

Might get a GTX 260 instead.

My 5850 runs like a dream, there have been a few crashes as a result of driver issues but it is running 850/1150 day in, day out stock volts and lots of gaming...
Bought around november.

I got a 5770 a few months ago not had one single issue at all.

It's probably just a case of they sold so many that some faulty ones do get through and people only post when something is wrong.

Not sure about the whole eyefinity thing though maybe half the problems stem from that ?

I'm in that long thread you linked to and many others besides. I had no end of trouble with my XFX 5870. GSOD, BSOD and just plain dying. It does seem to be the RAM on the card that's causing the issue. (i'm summarising a stack of threads on various forums including the AMD Game)

There's a bloke who can reproduce the issue at will by overclocking his RAM.

After going though 10.2 10.3 beta, 10.3a and 10.3 WHQL versions of the drivers, and clock settings, things were marginally improved, but not cured. At my wits end XFX gave me a new BIOS for the card and an update tool. This seems to have worked !! (touch wood)

I have asked XFX and they said the following.
"if others with the same XFX card have the problem they should register, and they will get the update. This is only for the XXX version of the XFX 5870, no other version or model. kind regards, james "

I can recommend giving it a whirl, or if you have a faulty XXX model let me know and I'll send you a copy.

Hmmm well this is freaky ...
I built an AMD system for a mate, it was running pretty well except some odd shutdowns, eventually flagged too an iffy memory stick.
New memory in and passed a few runs of memtest 4, into the system and now the dreaded ati driver stopped responding, grey screens etc are coming through.
This is with an asus 5770, no overclocking on anything. ... wondering if I should do clean install again, and lose the 3 hours of WOW updates

Ermm ... 19gb odd for the full install, its not like you can dl the updates seperate, when I tried that it was a us only version so as I couldnt find the UK I did it through the game updater, thats soooo sloooow !

But as an aside, the first install was drivers without CCC, I did try some others with CCC, and even though I unistalled them, I have a feeling thats what upset it !

sod WoW lol, I need to get this thing stable, if that means going back to a fresh install so be it !

You mention upgrading the RAM - did you see the post above about the bloke who had RAM issues ? Kingwahwah ?

EDIT - Also Ryan-3

I still get crashes of DisplayPort Link failure running Eyefinity 10.3betas, seem completely random but happen a lot in Dirt2.

Did you upgrade your gpu bios?
I used to get the odd intermittent blink on the displayport screen (using an active adapter). After upgrading the bios this hasn't happen since.

No, not upgrading, the whole system is new the ram has been replaced as it was faulty, If this 5770 keeps behaving like this it will be going back too !!

Just did a fresh instal no CCC and 10.4 drivers, still brown screen and driver stopped responding errors :( gonna try again with 10.3 drivers only ...

Never had a problem with my HIS 5770, though was crashing a lot with VPU recover kicking in on BFBC2. Turned out to be XP causing the problem. Got Win7 and it runs like a dream. OC'd it a little bit and and getting 60-70 FPS all the time in game now with settings on high. Great card for the money it really is. :D

Still driver not responding on fresh instal win 7 64, just mobo sound and 10.3 drivers only.
It crashed just opening up IE !
It won't even get into a game or benchmark before flaking out, I reckon this card is kaput :(
Just running win update, but don't hold out any hope ...
