Any one been to bristol zoo? if so whats it like? Im planning a suprise day out for me and my girlfriend this wednesday and bristol zoo is top on the list at the moment. The leaflet makes it look purely for kids (more rope swings etc than animals) is it?

It's good, it's in the middle of the city so it's obviously not enormous but it's got a nice variety of animals and plenty of talks/activities. If you plan on going to all the animal talks it'll fill a day nicely. Do make sure you look up the times beforehand, as some of the best ones i.e. the lions and gorillas are in the morning.

Also, take her to the lorikeet enclosure in the middle! Last time I went they were letting guests buy a little pot of nectar (I think it was about 50p or so) to feed the birds with. You'd go in and lots of little birds fly down, land on your arm to drink it.

There's also the tree-trekking course in the middle, which may or may not interest you but I quite liked, and the "animal adventures" show on the big lawn which is possibly more aimed at kids but has lots of animals doing tricks. Things like a parrot flying around the crowd spreading its wings, a lemur climbing/jumping around.. and a little armadillo which doesn't do any tricks but runs out and is quite cute anyway.

Me and my GF are heading back on Sunday :)

She lives in Clifton, so it's a short walk luckily. We've been to quite a few zoos and it's one of our favourites. And yes the Lorikeet thing is really good fun :)

You'll love it!

I really enjoyed it there, plenty to see. I went with my misses and some friends who also enjoyed it.

I've been several times. I really enjoyed it there, although I was a child when I went :p

I really like it. It has a bat enclosure you can actually walk through, a great nocturnal section and a really good penguin/seal 'coast' where you can actually go below ground level and watch then little guys swimming around. It's also got a pretty good bug house and reptile enclosure.

I think it is better than London Zoo but not as good as the Lake District Animal Park (the only others I have been to). I think it's pretty expensive though, would be a lot of money for a whole family. And yes it has got a strong emphasis on kids, but I guess most Zoo's do really. Certainly wouldn't stop me going (well maybe during the holidays it would!)

In fact I might go again with the GF on Monday if the weather is nice!

THANKS GUYS!!! you have made up my mind! I was just a bit worried about the size and some ppl were saying it was boring lol but i trust you (the ppl of overclockers) a lot more lol I live in bridgwater (cant drive yet) and there aint that much around here apart from bristol zoo and a place called tropicquria.. (bad spelling) but thats fully aimed at children lol i think we would look like a couple of retards two 24yo's walking around there.

P.s OH and a place called Secret world... i used to work there and it ended on bad terms lol so wouldnt want to show my face around there anytime soon!

Lol damn will just miss ya :P

Well thing is the Zoo is right opposite the Bristol Downs so even if you did wizz around the Zoo you could still go for a nice walk and visit the Suspension Bridge!

Edit:

You could also go for a bite to eat somewhere in Clifton as the canteen in the Zoo is very kiddy (think school dinner hall).

OP, get the train from Bridgwater to Temple Meads, will cost you £7.60 for a day return.

Then when you get out of the station, head towards your right at the main doors and to the bus stops for the 8 and 9, I can't remember which, but one of those two heads to Bristol Zoo. £4 for a day ticket on all central buses, or about £3 or so for a return.

Here you go:

You need the 8, and its at the station every 5 minutes, and takes 26 minutes to get to the zoo.

You could also get the 9 when you leave the zoo too. So it's fairly easy to get to for you.
