Hello people!

I got my shiny new htc desire Thursday and wow what a difference coming from a Sony Ericsson w810i lol

Anyway I want to keep my mobile number from my orange pay as you go phone but have a few questions.

I know I'll need to ring up orange to get the PAC then ring up and give it to t mobile but that's as far as it goes

1. Is there a time cut off point before its too late to keep old number?

2. What kind of time frame does it take orange to send me my PAC?

3. Will I get a new sim card for the number when its transferred?

Hopefully you guys can help me out! :D

I am in the process of doing the same thing.

So far I'm pretty sure you don't need to swap sims and the PAC code takes 48hrs to arrive. Not sure how long it takes for t-mobile to do the transfer.

is this doable in store? Ie im about to get a desire on tmobile with a new number obviously - but then i want to phone o2 (AFTER having the desire for a day or so), get my pac code and then nip into the tmobile shop next to where i work and get them to sort it. Will they do that for me?

They might do, normally they offer to do it when you start the contract. Failing that just ring the networks, it takes seconds

Technically the networks have the tools to provide a pac code in seconds and apply a pac code in seconds.

In reality, a pac code can take a few days to be sent.. and up to a week to be applied. The code is usually valid for about a month.

I believe Ofcom are attempting to get UK networks to send/apply pac codes quicker..

OK I've finally got free time to ring up tomorrow

Is the best way to ask for my PAC through ringing orange on 450 or is there a number for a specific department?

Sorry for the resurrection guys

I'm on a sim-only plan at the moment, if I get a PAC code from T-mobile then don't apply it, what happens? Does my "contract" keep going with my same number or does the line go dead after those 30 days?

Thanks in advance guys :)

Nothing happens. Your PAC will just expire after 30 days.
