I know we aint allowed medical threads but I don't think this falls under that.

Just wondering, I'm registered at a dentists back home; but am currently at uni, am I going to have any hassle getting a local dentist to see me over here?

you'll probably have to switch dentists if you can find one taking people on without a waiting list.

if you get desperate a lot of hospitals run an emergency dentist walk in centre anyway

Ah, ok.

I don't actually want to switch; I just think I'm gonna need some emergency treatment on Monday if the current level of pain in my mouth region doesn't subside.

I might give the hospital a ring in the morning.

Cheers.

Not unless you have problems finding an NHS dentist who's taking on new patients. I'd imagine that there would be a few dentists near the Uni that take students. If you struggle, then try contacting your SU.

For emergency treatments under NHS (afaik) you can go to any dentist without having to switch :)

But sometimes you have to pay an extra charge, <£20.

how much dental work do you need / is being undertaken?

Your hassle will be getting an NHS dentist. A private dentist will always welcome you with 2 arms open...and the third taking the money out of your wallet.

If you only see a dentist once / twice a year then forget about getting a new one and simply arrange your dental checkups around your visits home.

Any emergencies will be seen by a local dentist. Check the NHS direct website if you suddenly get tooth ache.

If you brush your teeth twice a day, don't have stuff like braces, don't eat shed loads of sweets and have had no previous trouble with your teeth or gums then there is no reason to see a dentist more than once a year.

I've been to an emergency dentist in Edinburgh a couple of times, they can only provide pain relief and are NHS run but will take anyone. I would assume that other cities will have similar placs for people who don't have a local NHS dentist.

If you can find a private dentist with reasonable prices then you wouldn't need to worry about losing your NHS dentist.
