Porsche Cayman - Opinions?

I had a 'S' for a week. IMO I thought it was a bit too compromised without being that special, but this totally depends on where you compromise. If I was going to live with suspension that stiff I would get something really silly instead, although this didnt have the adjustable suspension which I believe you can get with them. Steering was very nice, as you would expect from a MR layout. Engine nice and gusty for the size, nice even spread of power. Boot space both front and rear is pretty useless, depending what you are expecting I guess. I think the one I had wasn't that optioned up which may have swayed me more towards one. It didn't really feel that special compared to a nicely decked out 911 interior, but you pays your money etc. etc.

agree with some bits and disagree with others :)

re stiff suspension, yes I spent ages tracking down a rattle but worth it in end ;)

storage space is excellent if you need to shift stuff

give one a try and you will love it

you could also turbo charge it, uprate just about everything and end up with one of these :)

cayman is nice car but i'd rather to have older 911 purely cos it's proper porsche

I've never really understood this. What makes the Cayman not a proper Porsche, and an old 911 proper?

To me they are just all Porsches. Like any manufacturer they make a few models, they are different from each other, some are better than others.

Ignorance, plain and simple.

Anyone that has owned a 911 and a Cayman will tell you what a superb car the Cayman is and they're the ones that should know. I know quite a few that prefer the Cayman over most of the 911 range (until we get to the GT3/turbo end of the market)

Anyone that hasn't driven either will probably tell you that the Cayman is a poor mans Porsche simply because it's cheaper.

I love the shape of the Cayman, I much prefer it to the 911 in general. The 911 claws it back in GT3 form, as a Carrera though, I find the Cayman a much nicer looker.

glad to see this tbh. nice to see most people agree with me. i've always thought of the boxsters as a poor mans porsche and it just doesn't 'do it' for me. the cayman does though and although the back end isn't classic porsche the rest if.

the mileage is an issue i gather but not so much with a porsche it would seem.

they really are 'affordable supercars'.

:)

Must admit for the majority of the 'normal' 997 911s, bar the headlights, I prefer the 996 shape.

Comparing a 996 and 997 c4s for instance, whist the 997 might be the better car technically, I just prefer the looks of the 996 version.

well as you are in the minority and will pick up a cheaper car because of it! later 996's are quite a bit cheaper than only a few month newer early 997's.
