DCS:- Black Shark only £11 on D2D!

The ABRIS (The mapscreen) and the Keypad Navigation device (PVI-800) actually don't talk to each other, even though they do much the same thing. The PVI controls the Autopilot and is an inertial navigation system.

The ABRIS is a GPS system that was added later to the Aircraft and it does a million things I still haven't got my head around even now. It is really a mini computer (I think it even has boot up screen showing a 486DX cpu) but it isn't integrated into the Sharks other systems.

Nate
I just wanted it to point me at the right waypoint :) I'd taken a shortcut due to how long it took me to take off (lolnoob) and, rather handily, the plotted flight path had a section for loitering so that the other flight could catch up. I cut across this area to keep up with them, but because I didn't actually go near the waypoint, it continued to point (with the green line) at the missed waypoint. :)

Can't believe I cannot use my TrackIR2 with this without resorting to using 3rd party hacks, I'd definitely not have bought if I'd known beforehand :(

wow... I was gonna buy this wwhen I saw the original post, then I read some of the follow up posts... you've scared the hell out of me ;)

My trackir3pro works fine. May be it's lack of 6DOF? If it is, that sucks. :(

No, it's ED and NP locking out older version software and 3rd party apps like freetrack in an effort to force you to buy upgraded TIR units, disgusting behaviour.

Well I tried one of the missions and I made the helo move a few metre's on the ground lol.

I'm in way over my head, I haven't played a sim before, where do I even start?

Why on earth would you want to use TIR2 in a modern sim with a 6DOF cockpit? You might as well fly using the mouse and/or stick hat to control views.

Moaning that ED don't support outdated and obsolete hardware is just as bad as moaning at MS etc for not doing the same with new OS versions. Hardware becomes obsolete over time, that's life. Do yourself a favour and buy a TIR4/5, the new funtionality and improved performance is more than worth the money.

Read the manual, yes all of it. The clue is the in the genre "Study Simulator", and you really do have to put the effort in and study the aircraft, the weapons, and the threats you'll face in order to get the most out of sims like this.

Best way to start is forget the Shark even carry weapons, don't worry about killing things yet, simply learn to fly and navigate the aircraft. Once you can do that with your eyes closed then start of the combat side of things.

Try and find a few guys to fly with online, I run a public TS3 server for people to use when flying if you don't have access to comms, you'll be amased how much quicker you'll learn when you have other guys (even if they are newbies as well) to bounce questions off and practice with. And sims are always 10 times more enjoyable online. It is in fact the reason that apart from doing my regular training flights, I only fly sims online, both with a group of friends and in public servers.

If you don't have any mates who are into sims, get onto ED's forums and stick a post on the multiplayer boards and get a few people together, there is a group of guys who I've flown with who did exactly that and they meet up on my TS server most weekend to fly around, blow stuff up and just pass on new things they've learned to each other. You'll be amazed by the flight sim community if you get involved in it. It's so much more friendly and helpful than any other gaming community, and those of us who've been around for a long time are always more than happy to help out the newbies whenever we can. And best of luck with your first taste of flight sims, but be careful I started out like you 12 years ago, and now I'm a true addict who's spent £1000s on hardware, manuals and software just to satisfy and enhance my addiction.

hehe. ok I'm reading the manual abit now. I'll at least try getting off the ground before I post on ED lol.

Now gonna install my crappy joystick and TrackIR.

It's a totally different game to what I play atm. The learning curve is a brick wall lol.

You've got that right. Although one thing you will find it that if you stick with military flight sims, the learning curve will get shallower with each sim you fly as a lot of knowledge you've learned in the past will transfer over. For example, much of what you learn regarding the things (both other aircraft and ground units) you're fighting against or with will be the same in DCS:A-10C when it's released, so you won't be stating again from stratch.

Couple of questions,....... how big is the download ?, will the MS precision FF joystick work with this, an old stick now but still a great piece of kit!!!

There are 2 files, one is 1.3Gb the other is just under 900Mb. Your stick should work fine.

Cheers, downloading now :),........ In the OP's 1st post/vid anyone know what the music being played is ? just whats needed being played loud when your flying !!!
