Macbook Pro - buy now, or wait?

I'm very tempted to just copy & paste my previous e-mail and resend it.

It's not hard to say 'Yes we do' or 'No sorry' !!

edit:

I am now leaning more towards the 13.3" MBP.

As its my first mac what would the specs of the basic one be like for general useability?

As mentioned I would just be using it for music (on my external HDD) the odd film if I travel, interwebs/email/forums/flash games/pr0n/buying things online etc.

Will the size be ok for the above? I currently have an old 15" HP laptop that does these just fine for the size, but I want to upgrade as its quite old now and I fancy a mac.

I just can't justify an extra 500quid for 2"!

It will do all of those things perfectly fine. I'm considering switching to a 15" Macbook just because of the vertical resolution, 800 pixels just doesn't seem to be enough sometimes. Best to go into the store, load up a few sites you use, and see which resolution you prefer.

Remember for the £500 you're getting a much better CPU and graphics card. So it should last longer than the 13" as well.

Yeah that £500 is deceptive til you look at the spec difference - the MBP are inherently expensive but a large chunk of that £500 is due to the spec difference and only a bit to Apple tax :p

Still a 'normal' relatively non-gaming 15" laptop for £1500 is a scary thought - still not gonna stop me getting one though

I wouldnt say the £1500 cant play games, i plan on running a few myself once i get it, and your paying a lot of money for the quality of the product

I was more referring to Mac OS not being particularly popular as a gaming platform more than anything :p. The price point does put it in the leagues of a Windows gaming laptop...

Depends on how you're planning to use it. I'm planning to keep mine plugged into an external monitor most of the time so the screen resolution on the 13" model doesn't bother me too much. And then when I do need something portable, I have something truly portable.

Ah i see. to be fair there is only going to be 1 game i will be running, and thats eve online. sticking windows on should help solve any game problems though

Guys, my new MBP has been despatched from Shanghai (!) but UPS reckon it will be delivered on Monday when I'm out. Does anyone have any experience of the amount of time it takes them to ship from China? 3 days seems completely unrealistic, not least given the UK airspace restrictions today!

Thanks :)

When did you order?

Even though Apple stores don't usually stock the custom Macbooks, does anybody know if the stores have the default 15" Macbook and the custom one with the high-res option in store for comparison? Specifically the Trafford Centre or Manchester Arndale Stores?

When did you order?

Last Tuesday afternoon, within a couple of hours after the Apple Store came back up.

Everything still says Monday 19th, but I think realistically that's extremely unlikely given the huge disruption to European air traffic at the moment. Tuesday or Wednesday would actually be a great deal more convenient for me as I only have evening rehearsals and so will probably be about during the day.

We shall see! :)

'Fraid we don't have any high res 15's yet in the Arndale.

No worries, do you usually get other models in though for comparison? Won't be buying for another month yet I don't think. I just have a feeling 1680 will be too small on a 15" monitor.

I've been using 1680 on my 15" HP Pavilion for the past 6 years, and it's been perfect for me. Surprised how long it has taken Apple to introduce this.

Now 1080p screens is a different matter...

Yes, but you'll need the correct (3rd party adapter). A "mini DP to HDMI" adapter, to be precise.
Not got a link? Was gonna get the mini DP to DVI one but the HDMI version would be better as I can put it into my HDMI switch
