I don't think either of these cars are available in the UK without import but just curious as to whether anyone had any thoughts about them?

The reason I ask is because I'm looking to getting one or the other in the next month or so and they're roughly equally priced. (about 170k and 150k UAE dirhams respectively so about 20-25k sterling)

G37 basic specs: 3.7 litre naturally asperated V6 developing 350hp (330 net)

Mustang 4.6 litre naturally rubbish american engineering, developing an abysmal 306hp (294 net)

I know on paper it seems pretty clear that the mustang should be avoided since a) its engineering sucks beyond belief b) its american and therefore handles like a boat on soap but I dont know maybe in everyday application it's not that bad? and it does look so much beefier than the infiniti.

The infiniti on the other hand develops an astonishing amount of bhp for the price range and it's a full on luxury car at a great price, but there's just something i dunno, ugh about it, like im driving my dad's car or something.

Any thoughts on these two or is there perhaps a better option for the price range? maybe a 2nd hand range rover sport? or Touareg 4.8 turbo?

A Touareg 4.8 Turbo?

And what do you want, if you want a coupe why would a Range Rover Sport be a better choice? And if you want an off roader why would you consider a Coupe?

Resisting the urge to say something stupid regarding the OP's "engineering" comments here!

Shame the Infinity only makes 270ft.lb, as opposed to the Mustang's 320ft.lb. What sheddy engineering!

...actually the 2010 Mustang has come rather a long way with regards to quality, and premium feel, not that there was much wrong with last one in this regard either to be fair, it was/is a cheap car for what you get in America not a premium European car. It has a fantastic engine ...and has the looks and heritage appeal, something no Infinity has or will likely ever have.

I say Mustang, every time ...but the new Camaro is supposed to be the better car. As for what I would buy, probably the Dodge Challenger :p ...which isn't really as good as the other two but for some reason I like it better.

Sorry I should've clarified. I'm not leaning towards any type in particular. I'm 27 and I enjoy driving 4x4 or sport coupes or sedans equally as much. Petrol is very cheap here so it really doesn't matter how big the engine is.

In terms of what is most useful, a 4x4 is obviously going to have just that little bit more utility here but really only maybe 5% at most cause the road infrastructure is excellent and you only ever need to offroad if you wanna take a shortcut or something unncessary.

I just referenced the touareg or the range rover sport because you can get them pretty cheap 2nd hand here, quite easily at 150k-200k mark for maybe 30k kilometres and a full service history. I just wanted to know what others thought and see if im missing something obvious at the price range.

I really like the G37. I think it looks fantastic and it's a very solid car.
The materials used are much better than the Mustang.

If you're looking at 4x4s, why not check out the Infiniti FX?

Oh really? I remember renting one back in 2008 and I loved the rawness of it and in a straight line it was fantastic, but around a corner it could be scary sometimes and I remember driving round a very slight bend near my house which I can take with an X5 at 110km/h with absolutely no spin or trouble at all but in the mustang it would start to feel like it was reaching its limit at around 80km/h. In general the handling on the mustang was quite fiddly and not reassuring but if you're saying they revamped it for the 2010 model its definitely made me think it more a contender for the infiniti

the new 5.0 Mustang V8 in this years model is an awesome piece of kit

402bhp from a 4.0 V8 with 390 lb/ft of torque.

Furthermore, it achieves 31 UK mpg on a motorway run.

and of course, its american so its incredibly de-tuned as standard. It would run that power all day and you could not service it hardly at all and it would be fine.

Start treating it like a UK engine and giving it regular 5000 mile oil changes etc.. and the forums in the US have reported its good for 700bhp + on stock internals.

Awesome engine.

Handling is only a trip to Roush away with some bolt on bits. Id have that over that infiniti junk anyday.

mjt please read his post properly, he lives in the UAE

FWIW, Infiniti has UK models in RHD :p

Anyway, G37. or the FX which I think looks great.

...of course what you really want for cruisng around in the desert is one of these ...I'd absolutely love one, I can't really explain to you why ...I just love them, it's a total heart thing, I love the way they look ...the noise they make, the feel I just love them. The Mustang and Camaro are both better cars really, the Camaro rides and handles better, the Mustang handles better they both have better interiors ...they both cost less to buy than the SRT/8 Challenger they are both more economical, smaller and easier to park (who the hell even thinks about this crap when buying a muscle car though!) ...but none the less I'd love the Dodge even more than the other two and I'd love any of them really.

If you are seriously looking at the 'stang and the Infinti, give the Camaro SS and the Challenger SRT/8 a look too.

That isn't bad at all, I spoke with the mustang dealer briefly last thursday and asked what options there were for spec'ing it he said, we only import the 4.6 in the UAE. I'll ask if he can get a hold of one of these. Holy bananas it looks sick...wonder what you have to do to get close to 700bhp out of it

The challenger is pretty awesome i must admit, maybe I need to look at that one again

A fair chunk, but either way it certainly delivers a lot of smiles per miles :D

if he's only importing the 4.6 then he's importing the a second hand car or old stock.

The 2011 ford mustang V8 (ie the GT model) only comes in the 5.0

The old 4.6 engine has been discontinued. You want a new mustang for the 5.0

as for 700bhp. Supercharger usually. Plus assorted bits and pieces. Have a read on the US mustang forums.

Meh...:(

Interior on the Challenger is terrible, unless you like 'retroness', the Mustang interior is easily the best out of the 3 detroit muscle cars.

FX50, that's a lovely car, slung quite low, and good looking. I'd go for the Mustang because I'm a Ford fanboy (US cars only!).

I adore the FX series but the problem is the new shape looks terrible compared to the pre 2007 shape and it's a hefty increase in price over the old model.

Add to that the FX50 is really disappointing as a drive (I've driven it several times) and it doesn't pack enough power at all as a 5.0 litre. You need to go for the FX50S to feel like it's worth it and even then the power is still disappointing and it's a small fortune for the S.

If I could find a Pre 2007 FX35 which wasn't knackered by now I'd definitely get it but over here all of the ones available (as second hand of course now) are 70k kilometres+ and you dont wanna buy a car in the UAE that's got that much mileage, they get hammered to pieces.
