Where can I bulk-buy jerky or tong?

I don't mean boxes of small bags, though that would be fine as long as the bags weren't too small, but large quantities I could store well? A friend of mine recently lost a hell of a lot of weight, and she put it down to substituting pretty much all of her snacks for little bags of jerky, and my dad's workmate today asked me if I'd put on a bit of weight - not something to panic over, I guess, but nobody's ever said that to me before. Rambling aside, I love the commercial tong & jerky they sell in the supermarket, but where can I get it in large quantities?

You can make this stuff quite easily, and tastes a lot nicer then what I can seem to find in the UK. Just takes a bit of time, due to drying out etc... Would be a lot cheaper too!

Pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. Any specific recommendations for tasty shizzle on their store?

Get some original: http://www.biltong.co.uk/prod-A_Beef_Biltong_Original_per_500g-2609.aspx

Dryness & fat content is a personal preference, so you can either buy a few with varying fat/dryness or just take a guess.

Go for sticks as well, sliced will dry out quicker if you're keeping it for a while. However, it doesn't get ruined completely dry, still tastes just as good :D

Get some Droewors as well, legendary stuff: http://www.biltong.co.uk/prod-Droewors_per_500gm-2618.aspx. You can get Springbok/Venison as well if you want to try them.

UK & America have no idea on how to make biltong... they call it Beef Jerky for a start

I wouldn't want to consume too much of this sort of product over a prolonged period of time - it has a very high salt content.

The person I work with, who is Zimbabwean - Been here for just over 2 years, calls it Beef Jerky also.

Edit: I always make my own, so much better than the ready made stuff. That way it isn't loaded with salt.

Maybe the reason he calls it beef jerky is because beef jerky and biltong are in fact 2 different things, albeit both made from meat. Hence if he saw jerky he would call it jerky and if he saw biltong he would call it biltong. If however he sees biltong and calls it jerky then maybe he was only born in Zimbabwe or has Zimbabwean parents and grew up in America.

Agree with the making your own -> try this link for Biltong: http://thebiltongbox.wordpress.com/

Sanza is a good source of SA stuff too. The biltong was great from there and I can highly recommend the Klipdrift Premium if you are into brandy.
