Name a 'personal' song

Because of the person I associated it with in my head, "Lover, Ya Should've Come Over" by Jeff Buckley still brings a lump to my throat every time I hear it.

I didn't say the song has to be 'epic' just personal. You could put down something appalling like Ironik - Stay with me if you want :D

A couple of years ago i pre-ordered Marillion's double cd Happiness is the road (if you pre-ordered it by a certain date your name goes in the booklet). When i received the cd's there was a song on it called 'older than me'. This song could really have been written about me and my GF as she is 17 years older than me and is about having an older GF/wife and what other people think of that and the fact that if you love somebody it should be unconditional. Before i played it to her i told her that this song was written for us and after the first verse she started crying. Because she knows i am a huge fan of Mariilion she thought i had got them to write this song for us as it just seemed so personel.

This won't be many peoples 'cup of tea' and it is not even typical marillion type music in fact it's more like a mini song between songs.

There have been songs over the years I'd like to call personal, but I choose note to simply because what if you then don't want to hear a perfectly good song because of a personal problem?

But heck, I'll say Gone Too Far by Racer X. That stuff is so awesome it's a part of me :p

Queen - Heaven for Everyone.

Played at my Dad's funeral when he died 2 years ago. Only recently have I been able to listen to it again. Listening to it just makes me think of him but also brings a tear to my eye because I can only associate it now with seeing his coffin going into the floor. Listening to it at work probably isn't a good idea!

This as well, was the second song played at my Dad's funeral. Purely because it happened to be the next song on the CD, but it fit well. Yes, it was the George Michael version as well.

Avenged Sevenfold - Warmness on the soul

My wife and I's song. First dance at our wedding. I have some of the lyrics tattoo'd on me.

There are so many songs I could put here for so many different reasons. But I'll mention "Take Me To The Clouds Above" by LMC/U2. It's not a great song. It's just a pop song. But the words "take me to the clouds above" have a lot of meaning to me for very personal reasons. It also explains my sig for the last year or so.

The Eagles, Desperado - Played at my dad's funeral back in September '08. 18 months on, I still can't listen to it without welling up.

I have exactly the same reaction to Don McLeans American Pie for the same reason. It used to be one of my favourite songs, and co-incidentally one of his. 8 years later and I still don't like hearing it.
