Well instead of flying Bristol to Glasgow today I've got to spend 6-8hrs on the train

You are a fool if you think they will go against advice and risk against the advice given to them.
i do feel deeply glad for people that live near an airport, i bet the piece and quiet has been good
I feel for you - one of my colleagues is doing the opposite of you - Glasgow to Bristol. Poor bugger.Well instead of flying Bristol to Glasgow today I've got to spend 6-8hrs on the train![]()
Ozone? What does that have to do with air traffic?
Well during the last mass grounding of fligts (sept 11), the difference between night and day temps was a whole degree celsius more globally. I also remember watching a horizon program where scientists actually found that the days were brighter too as contrails from the aircraft weren't blocking sunlight any more.
On a serious note, does this really need top level meetings by COBRA/Gordon to get the country flying again? Surely passenger safety is of the utmost importance here.
And all this talk of the Navy bringing peple home? Erm, wtf?
Several airlines have sent up test flights, then inspected the engines and found no problems.
The Met office have gone up and found dangerous levels of ash though.
Dangerous as defined by what / whome though? Certainly not the engineers inspecting the engines that have flown through it.
The only etst flights i've seen are all incredibly short distance.. IE Heathrow to Cardiff. Thats not long enough to say everything its perfectly fine. the Aircraft wouldn't even get to a suitable height.
Not to mention the engineers of the airlines will always say its fine, they need to get paid, thats not going to happen if the airlines are losing millions per day.

Why can we not use ships to take people to/from Spain/Morocco/etc and then fly them out globally from there?

It really shows that you genuinely know **** all.
That's got to be the dumbest thing said in this thread. If there was a visible problem with the engines, the engineers would definitely not say it's fine, they'd get the sack.
Who's "we"?
Like people don't use ships already and we have some surpluss supply!
Surely it would take ages to get to Spain in a boat.
