How can I get trees cut down in park behind my house?

We have some huge trees which are a metre or so beyond our fence, in a park. They basically stop most of the sun coming into the garden in the summer.

Does anyone know how I'd go about getting the council to chop them down? Do I have any grounds to have them chopped? I wouldn't even mind paying for it myself (provided it wasn't thousands).

As above, damage to foundations or property would be the only reason the council would look at your request.

Do you need and/or want a shed? Would the tree's roots cause a problem if said shed needed foundations and was placed at the bottom of your garden?

then how come my parents had to remove a bunch of trees from the rear garden because the neighbours who built a conservatory knowing the trees were there complained to the council about the trees blocking some light.

btw isnt there some stuff you can buy that kills the stump/roots off a tree thats been cutdown? get some and stick it around the tree late one night it will probably need to be removed

possibly something to do with the "Right to Light"? http://www.planning-applications.co.uk/righttolight.htm

When the local neds where swinging from the tree outside my house my mum phoned the police to complain. Next day the council cut the tree down... health and safety and all that innt ;)

doubt it in my parents case the houses werent anywhere near 20 years old and the trees were on the land in the back garden before the houses were even built, so the houses were built knowing the trees would be blocking some light

it probably depends on your council as to wether they are nice or not and wether its at cost to them

Given the right to light and various other clauses I can't believe the house next door got planning permission. It's huge, and blocks sunlight to at least 60% of our garden until about 2pm, so our flowers miss the morning sunlight.

In the middle of the night go and nail some copper nails into the trees at the base.

Within a year they'll be dead, then the council will shift them.

Don't tell them about the nails!

Sounds like a job for a tree saw and a ninja suit under the cover of darkness.

A quiet - moonless night.
The neighbours are asleep and all that stirs is Nor dressed head to toe in black, fighting his way upwards towards the dense tree canopy.

Out of breath and sweating profusely, he unsheaths the Wolf Multi-Change Professional Tree Saw with his blooded, splintered hands and prepares to end the life of something that has caused so much pain...

30 seconds later - a cracking noise similar to a giant redwood being felled, followed by a small earth tremor - echoes around the neighbourhood. Nor watches on, as each house illuminate in sequence...
