How can I get trees cut down in park behind my house?

We have some huge trees which are a metre or so beyond our fence, in a park. They basically stop most of the sun coming into the garden in the summer.

Does anyone know how I'd go about getting the council to chop them down? Do I have any grounds to have them chopped? I wouldn't even mind paying for it myself (provided it wasn't thousands).

How long have the trees been there? I'd rather put up with a little sun blockage than see trees chopped down. There isn't enough in the city now never mind chopping more down.

We have a load of trees in the green at the bottom of our garden. I don't mind that. I do mind the streetlight the Council put in the car park spoiling the darkness at night!
