This is a massive long shot, but my girlfriend and I are off to Amsterdam on May 6th and still don't have a place booked to stay. We were looking at getting an apartment as we'd like a kitchenette to try and reduce costs of eating etc but we obviously wouldn't rule out a hotel. Our budget is around £110 a night or less.

Does anyone know any sites that are good for searching this kind of thing other than TripAdvisor? We were tempted to stay here but it's not quite centrally located.

Failing that if anyone can actually recommend a place that they may have stayed in, that would be ace!

Cheers ;)

dont worry about where it is theres trams all around going into amsterdam. red light is good (didnt go in tho) and so are the coffee shops. Go to the sex museum tis funny. have fun :) Also when you go get there get a amstermap well worth it since you know where everything is. Also when you go to see the red lights theres proper dodgy streets with amazingly ugly fat ones etc dont just go to where all the nice ones are. on another note theres a pub called suzies near one of the main canals €3 a pint :) its worth going leid zeplain for a good night out (its where all the pubs are about 5 min tram ride from central station)

went to Amsterdam with a few mates and we booked one of the house boats from this site.

looks like they have a few good apartments too. We stayed in the music boat which was about 5 mins walk from the station, would definitely stay there again.

Citizenm is a great place to stay, just came back last wed (thank god!) very cool and trendy place, the TripAdvisor review (the good ones) is basically correct, bare in mind the shower and toilet screen are pretty much see-though tho :) and the food that sell in the canteen is quite expensive, which one you staying in? the city one or the airport one? if is the city one the location is actually really good, tram only takes like 15-20 min and it runs till like 1am or something :)

edit: if you are going to visit the museum then get the I amsterdam Card , well worth it, give you unlimited public transport (not train tho )and free entry to loads of museums.

Went last year hotel was quite away out from the centre, but already mentioned there are loads of trams to get around on.

If you do intend on using a lot of trams you can buy a travel cardwhich will save quite a lot of money.

I've used stayamsterdam.com before to book apartments, there's a fairly wide range of budgets so you should find something.
